Part Eighteen

Eva's POV "What kind of joke is this?" Mr. Mavoric asked Quince and I just stood there awkwardly not knowing what to say or do. I honestly wanted to cry. The man just openly rejected me and I knew I couldn't stay here a second longer. "What?" Quince enquired with a knowing look on his face. Was there something I was missing here? "I can't believe you've finally decided to marry!" Mr. Mavoric chimed and a grin appeared on his face as he began laughing. "Dad, don't play jokes like that. You scared her", Quince punched him playfully on the arm and I physically and mentally relaxed. It was a joke. Not cool. "She's a soft one I see. The stay at home type then?" Mr. Mavoric smiled at me. Was I just referred to as 'soft'. "No, not exactly. She's the business type. But even if she was the stay at hope type, I wouldn't mind", Quince graced me with a charming smile. "Hey, what ever makes you happy, I'm more than alright with", Mr. Mavoric told his son. "Welcome to the family Eva", Mr. Mavoric told me and put his hands out for me to shake. I took it and he surprised me when he pulled me in for a hug instead. "Your a Mavoric now. I'll consider you my daughter", he told me as we released from the hug. "Since I'm your daughter now. I'll have you know that I despise being called soft", I sent him a saccharine smile. "Oh, sassy. Like a ferocious cat. I like her", Mr. Mavoric laughed. "Oh, this means war", I told him playfully, "You did not just call me a cat". "How do you Americans say it, 'it's on like donkey kong'", he continued and I started laughing. "Okay you two, break it up", Quince interrupted, "We're about to end one family feud, we don't need another". "Don't be such a stick in the mud, we were just having fun", I defended, even if we all knew it was just a joke. "Yeah, a friendly competition never hurt anyone", Mr. Mavoric joined me. "I can't believe it. My wife just turned on me and joined my father. Or was it the other way around?" Quince faked being hurt. "I'm not your wife just yet", I informed him. "No but I am Azzy's father and we need to check on her", he told me and my mind instantly ran on my little sister. I hope she calmed down. "Who's Azzy? You have a child?", Mr. Mavoric asked me confused. "No... I mean, yes... I mean...", how the hay do I explain this. "Azzy is Eva's little sister who we adopted after her parents died", Quince explained and his father's grin only grew. "First a wife and now a child too, I feel so elated my son has already got a family of his own. Hope you can keep that safe from Linos", Mr. Mavoric complimented.
