Eva's POV
"Quince?" I stated, though it sounded more like a question. What was he doing here. How did I feel like he knew about Reed's proposal.
When Quince's eyes met mines, it told me all that I needed to know. He knew. He knew about the proposal. It was crazy how I could tell, but I could. And what I saw in his blue eyes was nothing but pure rage.
"Don't you dare call my name", he seethed out as he slowly, but dangerously, proceeded towards me, "I leave for a few hours, and this is what everything turns to? You agree to marry this clown!" he pointed at Reed.
I would have laughed if I was in the audience, sadly, I was part of the situation and that would just be awkward.
"Who are you to speak to my fiancé that way?" Reed enquired of Quince who's eyes flashed dangerously at him. And how marvelous, Reed wasted no time in proclaiming me as his fiancé. Just splendid.
"That person you're referring to as your fiancé is the mother of my child", Quince told him and everyone's eyes widened in shock. Great, now everyone thought I was pregnant. When in reality, Quince was referring to Azzy. I didn't even sign the damn adoption papers!
"I got back when I heard from one of my men that this fool came to see you before the meeting. I found it funny and I didn't want to believe that he'd actually manipulate you!", Quince yelled at me. He couldn't be serious. Did he just say that one of his men was watching me! Sure, Reed manipulated me, but Quince was playing me!
"Did you just say you had people spying on me?" I asked amusingly. These men were crazy! And here I thought Azzy or a snail was trouble. Boy, was I lying to myself.
"Is that all you picked up?! You're lucky I found the deed when I did!" Quince yelled at me angrily and then turned his attention to Reed, "And I'm lucky my girl no longer has to marry an i***t such as yourself".
I heard a few chuckles coming from the other allies and I seriously wanted to laugh myself. But Reed looked unbothered. He obviously hasn't met the likes of Quince Mavoric.
"You found the deed?" Reed asked amusingly. Quince responded with a role of his gorgeous blue eyes. I personally found the action cute.
"Are you people prone to hearing the unnecessary?" Quince raised an eyebrow at Reed, "And yes, I found the deed. Next time, don't leave it out in the open you moron. Then again, there won't be a next time".
The damn deed was out in the open?! I could have taken it if I wanted to?! Stupid, stupid, stupid Eva!
Reed charged for Quince but was held back by Mr. Alas and Mr. Mortan before he could reach him. But I doubt he would have been even been able to harm a single hair on Quince's head any who. Have you see his biceps? I got a glimpse once. They were drool worthy. What am I even saying anymore? Where am I again?
"Who the hell do you think you are?!" Reed growled in clear annoyance.
"Quince Mavoric", Quince walked close to where Reed was being held back and stated firmly, "You ever try to mess with my girl again, and I will tear you bit by bit".
That line alone was enough to have me swooning over the dangerous stranger. Too bad, I wasn't the forgiving types either.
Quince grabbed my hand and all but dragged me out of the meeting room with him.
"Will you bug out of my life!" I scowled at his dark hair as he didn't turn around to look at me.
I tried a few more times to get his attention, but he kept ignoring me. We entered the elevator to head downstairs and he didn't so much as glimpse at me. Rude! You drag me along and then ignore me?!
"Do you always do this to every girl you meet? Or am I that lucky one?", I continued to ask, "What am I even saying, you're a gang leader, what girl wants to purposefully step into that life?"
I swore that slipped, but no sooner had it left my mouth had Quince taken either of my hands and pinned me to the elevator wall. To say I was scared would be an understatement. His eyes stared down at mines with anger as they narrowed into thin splits.
"You were asked to do one thing!", he yelled, "You seriously couldn't give me the snail!"
"Is that all you care about! What is with you and that thing?" I responded equally as loud.
"I'll tell you what my problem is with that 'thing'", he mocked, "It will help me finish what my father and his brother started. I will end anyone who is directly related to my scum of an uncle. And that's Linos".
My eyes bulged out of my sockets. He wasn't serious, was he? He was going to 'end' Linos, as in... kill him? I can't let him do that! No matter how weird I found Linos was, I couldn't have Quince kill him. Who was Quince, a demon?
"I am not helping murder someone Quince! Get that through your thick head! I want no part in this!", I said as I struggled and managed to get out of his grip.
"You will help me, Eva, or else", he told me as the elevator door dinged open and he marched out and into a black limo.
No matter what threats he threw at me, I wasn't going to help him kill someone, not an innocent soul. I had morals, and I would always stick by them. How was I even sure Quince would leave me alone after I gave him that snail any who… if I gave him that snail.
Fool me once, you made me a dunce. Fool me twice, you'll pray the price. There was no way I'd involve myself in Quince's assassination project. Never.

"I'm ready to cut the cake Eva!" Azzy informed from what I suppose was the staircase. I was busying myself in the kitchen with finishing up her birthday cake. I simply needed a way to get my head of Quince and the snail. It was the main reason I chose not to visit the zoo or the slimy creature this afternoon.
Instead, here I was, with flour all over my clothes and frosting in my hair. But, it was worth it. My tension and stress seemed to vanish as Azzy and I worked on her cake. But now the soon to be six year old had already cleaned herself up, without my help, and was summoning for her cake. How very delightful. Note the sarcasm. But I was proud of her anyway for getting ready by herself.
"Just a minute Azzy! I'm almost done!" I responded as I placed the flower candle on the very top of the three layered cake. I walked out of the kitchen with the cake in both my hands. I looked over at Azzy who had settled herself in the living room. She was scowling at me and I found her so adorable that I only winked at her in return. And to my surprise, she had managed to dress herself properly. Her shoes were on correctly and her hair was brushed. What a miracle!
"Finally", she huffed as she hopped of the couch and made her way towards me as I set the cake down on the coffee table. It was just Azzy and I for now. I didn't want to keep a big party after what happened today and Quince's threat. The last thing I wanted was my sister's life in danger.
Somewhere deep down, I wanted to sign the adoption papers and make my little sister my daughter. It would have made her so happy. But I didn't want to be sharing the parent hood with Quince. That would mean dragging Azzy and myself into his crazy world. And I surely didn't want that.
The doorbell rang and my heart almost skipped a beat. I was so jumpy. For all I knew, it could have been one of the neighbors. I marched my way towards the front door and opened it.
"Hel..." A hand went over my mouth to stop me from screaming out 'blood murderer' and another secured itself around me to prevent me from thrashing about. Oh for crying out loud! Why couldn't it have just been a neighbor?!
