Everybody in the house was busy preparing for my debutante since the second prince had decided to attend. They made it more luxurious. I have been feeling anxious ever since our last family meal. I will get married after my debutante, which will take place in three days. My father still hasn't mentioned who I'll be marrying.
I won't ask for too much. I won't even dream about my soon-to-be husband being so caring or falling in love with me. I just want to leave this estate. For now, that's all I want.
"My lady," one of the maids had called. It is about fitting multiple gowns and dresses for me to wear.
I sighed, imagining the hours that I needed to spend trying different clothes for me to wear made me feel exhausted as soon as possible. We walked our way through the hall until we reached the room where we would be doing the fitting.
I saw my mother sitting elegantly while sipping some tea. "Hello Mother," I greeted.
"Why are you always late?" My mother asked me if she would be hitting me any moment.
Her exclusive maid smirked behind her back, sneering at me, while I, on the other hand, just stood there quietly. This type of bullying and abuse is all I ever experienced.
Last night, I decided to change and not ask for their attention anymore. I just decided not to care anymore and it worked. It doesn't hurt that much anymore.
The maids removed my clothes and started fitting every dress that my mother brought. They didn't stop until my mother chose one.
It's funny how they want everything to be perfect and luxurious just because a member of the imperial family decided to attend. They wanted to show everyone that our family was perfect, and they treated me well when they were the ones who spread rumors about me being crazy and ugly.
"I should take my leave. Don't ever try to gain weight in the past three days or I, myself, will lock you up. Do you understand?" My mother threatened. I stiffened at her stiff and cold voice. I nodded in reply and also left the room.
As I sat in my room enjoying a cup of tea, my brother Erick decided to pay a visit. "Hey ugly," he greeted him and arrogantly sat on the other side of the table. "Hey you, serve me a cup," Erick ordered Katy.
"Do you want to know who's going to be your husband?" Erick asked while sneering at me.
"Who is it, brother?" I asked innocently, but honestly, I didn't care.
"It's the monster in the North," he replied and laughed so loudly.
What?! The monster in the north?! I know they do not treat me as their own but to sell me off to a monster who killed his own parents?!
Erick was about to sip his cup of tea when I shouted at him. "GET OUT," I ordered.
"What?! How dare you raise your voice at me?!" he shouted back at me.
"I SAID LEAVE!" I shouted again, and he slapped me multiple times until my nose bled.
"Hideous thing, who do you think you are to order me around?" He said and left the room. Katy rushed at me and hugged me.
I do not have any strength to talk. I hugged Katy back and cried. How can they do this to me? Am I really part of this family? Why do they have to send me to that duke?
"Oh my lady," Katy whispered while comforting me.
"I'm scared Katy, what should I do?" I asked while crying.
"Let's run away, my lady, let's go far away from here," she said. Her offer is tempting, and I really want to run away, but they will not stop looking for me. If they ever found us after running away, Katy won't live. I bit my lip and looked at Katy.
"It's okay Katy, maybe this is for the best," I replied, and Katy gave me a disbelievable look. I smiled at her awkwardly.
"Can you give me some time alone?" I asked, and she nodded, leaving me alone in my room.
I cried and cried until I did not realize that I had fallen asleep. I woke up in the middle of the night and wandered around outside. I walked around in our garden, thinking deeply about what to do.
I am too scared to get married to the Duke, but I'm more scared to run away. Is this really my destiny? My fate? Am I going to survive in the North? Maybe dying is not so bad. At least I won't die at the hands of my own flesh and blood.
The day of my debut has arrived, and the maids are all busy preparing me. I don't know how many hours have passed, but I am exhausted and hungry. I have not even changed my dress yet. Honestly, I did not think that I would get treated like this on my birthday. Ever since I was a kid, all of my clothes have been for my sister Corina. This is the first time they made an effort. Well, I should thank the second prince for this.
At least they gave me something wonderful before sending me away to a monster. "My lady, I brought you a snack," Katy said while looking at me apologetically. I gave her my warmest smile, making her feel relieved.
They have stopped giving me a proper meal to make sure that I won't be gaining weight for my dress to be perfectly fit, but I still should be thankful that they are still giving me some food.
While quietly enjoying my snack, a couple of maids went into my room, followed by my mother. Another couple of maids came in holding a dress and I understood immediately that it was time for me to change. She must be here to make sure that I haven't gained any weight.
After everything was settled, my mother gave me another look and smirked at me. "You should enjoy your last birthday celebration with us. You should be thankful that we even managed to find a proper husband for you even though you are useless and ugly," my mother said using her coldest tone.
Even though I have decided to not care anymore, every word from her mouth feels like a dagger digging into my heart.
Well, this was the last time that I would hear their voices. Maybe dying is not really bad after all.
