I braced myself as I said, “I didn't mean to offend you when I told Carl about the apology stuff. I just wanted you guys to have a closure concerning that. I hope you're not mad.”
I gauged the expression on Cole's face, and all I saw was his muscles clench. “I was, at first. But it's okay.”
“Actually,” he then began, “the dead fish was just an excuse. I wanted to spend a lot of time with you before I leave for the village.”
My gaze was filled with warmth as I looked up at him.
Our eyes locked as I quickly leaned in and stole a kiss. I caught him unaware so his eyes widened, but then the kiss deepened as we began sucking each other's lips and our tongues found each other's in the kiss.
Our breath quickened as I later withdrew, panting.
