AUTHOR'S POV: Cole, Cray, and Carl went into the office in the mansion. Cole knocked firmly on the door, while his brothers stood beside him. "Come in," said Kemper's raspy voice from inside. Cole twisted the brass doorknob and swung the door open. He walked into the room with his shoulders squared, Cray and Carl followed behind him. The wood-paneled office smelled of old leather and cigar smoke. Kemper sat behind a large wooden desk, leaning back in his chair with a cigarette between his fingers. His eyes, under the brim of his black hat, looked closely at them. He looked very serious, unlike at the den where he was more chill.
