Velicia shook her head slowly. “Leah… no…”
“I have to try!” Leah cried. “You don’t understand! I saw her! I saw my mom! She’s still in there. I know she is! If Diane can make monsters, then maybe she can undo one too!”
“She’s lying to you!” Velicia shouted. “She’s manipulating you like she manipulates everyone!”
“I don’t care!” Leah screamed, tears now streaming down her face. “If there’s a chance—any chance at all—then I’m taking it! You have no idea what it’s like to see the person you’ve been searching for for three years, do you? And now that you've seen them, they’re now the thing you've been fighting against! Velicia, my mother is a thing! I can't even hold her, or talk to her, or even say goodbye!”
