While calming down from my freak out, I try to get back to normal as my bestie comes running into the room. Almost knocking me down by throwing herself at me so hard I barely topple over.
Ali is rocking me back and forth singing the "Happy Birthday" song remix.
"Happy Birthday girl, we are about to get chocolate wasted" Ali screamed in the ear about the last part of this.
All I could do is laugh, and the freak out is completely forgotten. As we are leaving my dad stops me to check on, "Honey are you sure your okay to go out and drink and party." Dad says quietly so Ali can't hear this weird conversation.
"I'm fine dad, I promise."
I kiss him on the cheek and grab my bestie by the hand and run out of the house to enter the brisk night air. Now that I'm freezing a little I think maybe I can actually make new friends, where I'm going. I know right who makes friends on their birthday and at a club.
I feel I might have been sheltered as an only child and not the most popular child in high school or college. Since Ali by my side I have started to open up more and give everyone a chance even strangers who don’t seem like a threat.
