CHAPTER 13: A REFORMED FROSTMARK

Inside Winterkeep, a lot of people hired by the personal assistants of the new Frostmark Provincial Secretaries to man the offices of the Frostmark Provincial Secretaries are busy typing away direct orders through their modified electric typewriters which has an autocorrect function built in to delete mistakenly typed words on the paper and had the soft keyboards of gaming computers, powered by the fusion of steam, metal magic, mental magic, fire magic, and thunder magic, to their counterparts out in the field, since Prince Cain doesn't tolerate idle pen pushers who talked about royal rules and bureaucratic protocols all day.

Prince Cain expects real, swift results, and he doesn't care how it’s done, so long as the modernization of Frostmark Province is swift and drastic, and could be felt by the residents of Frostmark Province.

Prince Cain is currently inside the 1st Frostmark Land Forces Barracks, watching the former knights who chose to sign up for the Frostmark Land Forces practice their firing skills with the new weapons given to them, namely a modified caliber 50 musket with a rapid reloading mechanism, rapid-fire speed, has a scope, an enhanced range, shot exploding bullets, is infused with metal magic, fire magic, and wind magic, in the shooting range.

In another part of the shooting range, a group of new, raw recruits from amongst the commoner residents of Winterkeep are being drilled on how to safely and accurately fire their sidearm, a modified 50 caliber flintlock that could fire exploding shots in rapid succession, had a fast reload speed, and an enhanced range, and compensate for the recoil while firing.

In the dojo, the recruits are taught how to fight dirty with poisoned combat knives, and are expected to master a mixture of martial arts combined from both karate and krav maga.

Meanwhile, at the seas near the border of Krakenfell Province, nobles and commoners alike who signed up as crewmen aboard the new small but sleek, swift, and deadly steam warships with the fusion core of steam, water magic, wind magic, fire magic, metal magic, and thunder magic, bristling with rapid-fire sea cannons that can be reloaded in quick succession, anti-air mortars as defence against magical beasts that flew in the air did war simulations alongside the new small yet swift and sleek steam submarines with the fusion core of steam, thunder magic, and fire magic, and fired magically enhanced missiles capable of sinking a ship with one hit underwater. The 1st Frostmark Air Fleet consisted of modified fighter-bomber balloons which had the fusion core of hydrogen, helium, fire magic, thunder magic, metal magic, and steam, has magically enhanced g*n turrets and magically enhanced missile launchers with enhanced accuracy, could fly like a helicopter, has the speed and maneuvers copied from the Holy Church’s Empyrean Hawks, did mock dogfights with the dragons of House Seafyre and House Dragonfyre, with the Dragonriders wearing enhancements thanks to Prince Cain, while on the skies close to Winterkeep, the Silverfin Air Fleet and the Ashgale Air Fleet, also made up of fighter-bomber balloons, simulates a thrilling and intense mock dogfight to the awe of the spectators watching safely on the ground through magically enhanced binoculars.

The Kingsroad connecting all of Frostmark Province has been upgraded into proper asphalt roads, to allow wheeled traffic to pass by safely.

Sleek 4 seater steam powered cars that have a fusion core of steam wind magic, earth magic, thunder magic, has the speed of a falcon, and fuel capacity of a cargo truck, and has complete offroading capabilities now zoom along the roads all over Frostmark at top speeds, side by side with steam powered cargo trucks with the speed of a bullet train, has the storage and fuel capacity of two trucks, with a refrigerated interior so the goods won't spoil, and a driver's area with climate control to keep the driver cool during hot days and warm during cold days, with the fusion core of steam, wind magic and earth magic, has wheels good for offroading, muddy surfaces, slippery ice and loose rock surfaces, and can even navigate properly in foggy and near zero conditions.

New, modern shops, department stores, office branches, factories, fast food stalls, theaters, cinemas, and modern markets run by competing merchant guilds and enterprising locals dot the outpost towns all over Frostmark, including Winterkeep.

A certain bank named Frostmark Golden Bank, directly under the Frostmark Provincial Trade & Finance Secretary, directly gave affordable loans to anyone who wished to avail for a loan, directly cutting out The Gilded Treasury, a bank located in Aethelgard where they usually have to apply for loans.

The roads all over Frostmark, including side streets, are now powered with modified steam-powered electric street lamps so bright it will have made Thomas Edison blush with shame.

Every outpost town and outpost city all over Frostmark, including Winterkeep, now boast their own electric power plant. The main electricity source came from burning many tons of trash which are dumped daily into the garbage disposal system of Frostmark which are converted into clean, reusable energy. The second source came from the cold, biting wind, and the third source came from the tons of waste byproducts rejected by the woodcutters of Frostmark. Every single power plant is heavily fortified, with enchanted electrified barbed wire fences outside the perimeter, rapid fire cannons and rapid fire anti-air mortars placed in strategic positions all over the perimeter, and heavily armed soldiers with military grade walkie talkies manning the cannons and the rapid fire anti-air mortars.

The agriculture, animal breeding, fishery, mining, and lumber industries in Frostmark also receive upgrades from the Third Prince, with the farms all over Frostmark now dotted with enchanted greenhouses, to allow the farmers to plant and harvest crops all year round. The farmers are given new, magically enhanced seeds, cuttings, and fruit seedlings that yield richer and fatter harvests, with big fat high quality crops. Coffee from Solara province is also introduced to the farmers, to kick-start the coffee industry in Frostmark. They are also given modernized and enhanced steam tools to make their work faster and easier. For the animal breeders, they are given new, magically enhanced chicken, goats, pigs, ducklings, cows, and turkeys that grew faster, and had richer, tastier, and fatter meat and eggs, and produced better quality milk. The miners are taught ethical mining methods, and taught to replant the sites they mined. Heavy penalties are implemented for those who failed to replant the mining sites, same with the loggers. For the loggers, steam-powered chainsaws are given to the loggers to make logging easier and faster, and they are given enchanted tree seedlings that grow faster than normal trees, which produces better quality wood. For the fishermen, enchanted fish fingerlings and other enchanted seafoods like octopus, squids, turtles, clams and molluscs that reproduce at a slower rate, yet had richer, fatter and tastier meat are released into the seas, lakes and rivers, and the fishermen taught sustainable, ethical ways of fishing, and given steam fishing ships. A new occupation also springs up, namely shadowbeast hunting, to hunt for wild and dangerous shadowbeasts which are highly prized and expensive for their high quality meat, hides, and milk in the market.

Households all over Frostmark Province now enjoy modern comforts, goods and amenities taken for granted by people of the modern world, like many forms of entertainment, canned goods, television, radio, a proper comfort room and bathroom with running water, and so forth, with insane modifications, of course, like an electric stove with the fusion core of steam, fire, water, metal, and thunder magic connected to a socket, with a built-in oven, microwave, griller, roaster, and toaster.

Residents all over Frostmark now wear bold modern clothes in open defiance of the Holy Church, from the nobles, down to the commoners, and ordinary mages can walk and discuss their magic freely, out in the open, without fear of repercussions, or even getting arrested and killed by Inquisitor Mages.

The churches, chapels, and monasteries in every single outpost town, and outpost city of Frostmark Province, including Winterkeep, gets burned down to ashes with dynamites and steam powered backhoes, with their riches seized by Prince Cain, and the nobles of Frostmark. In their place stands libraries, schools, shopping centers, factories, and buildings owned by the Magic & Sciences Technological Research & Application Institute.

Tall electric lines, water lines, and telephone lines didn't dot the skyline, as everything is built underground, but tall glistening towers that would have put the engineers of the Chrysler Tower and the Empire State Building to shame reach the skyline.

As for security against thieves and criminals, well, there's proper security, sort of, but a unique police force. They dressed like Mafia men of the early 1900s, with the same exact vehicles and weapons with insane modifications, and they wore a police badge. And no, they don’t bother with proper protocols and procedures. Thieves are sent straight to prison, while the items and money they steal the police return to the owners, if the owners show up, but if not, the police sell the items or even claim it for themselves if the items were expensive, and claim the money. For smugglers caught selling legal and safe contraband, like counterfeit bags and smuggled food and drinks, the police don't just confiscate. They take the 70 percent of the haul and money for themselves, and give 30 percent to the nobility of Frostmark, and Prince Cain, and sell the counterfeit items, while the general public turns a blind eye, and buys counterfeits, and smuggled goods right in public.

Ocean going passenger ships with the practicality of an inter-island ship, the speed of a yacht, the luxury of a cruise ship, and has a fusion core of steam, water magic, thunder magic, wind magic and metal magic sail the stormy seas of the north to the south, and go to and fro between the sea borders of Starhaven Kingdom and Frostmark. It can sail through stormy seas filled with krakens and monsters of the deep oceans, under stormy conditions. Even their ports resemble that of modern ports, with modern comforts, while passenger balloons that flies and moves like a VTOL jump jet, with the seater capacity of a Boeing, has the speed of a VTOL jump jet, immune to heavy thunderstorms and heavy rainstorms, has the fusion core of helium, thunder magic,hydrogen, and air magic. It is fireproof and thunder proof, and can fly through the worst thunderstorms, rainstorms, and zero visibility conditions rule the skies. The airports are always full and bustling with activity.
