Appearance of Davika

1630 Words
The morning light filtered through the curtains like an unwanted truth:soft, slow, but impossible to ignore. Ploy woke up still shaken from what Pimchanok had told her. She sat at the edge of her queen-size bed, thinking about last night, her hands clenched tightly in her lap. Eva, who claimed to be Davika, was still in her dream, unaware that her carefully built life was crumbling. Since that moment, everything felt so wrong. The smile she had once thought sincere, the talk that once warmed her, the words that had seemed lovely were now replaced by doubt, fear, and, worst of all, heartbreak. Her phone buzzed once. She looked at the screen: 11 am at the Vyra office, come alone, don’t let anyone know. It was just a short message,no name, no explanation but..... but she knew exactly who the sender was. It was Pimchanok. She slowly stood up, afraid she might wake the woman, and walked to the bathroom. After a short while, she came out, relieved to see that the woman was still asleep. She walked toward her closet, her hand brushing past elegant dresses and blazers she used to wear to boardrooms. She hesitated for a long moment before finally choosing something much simpler: a black silk blouse and high-waisted trousers. Usually, when going out, she preferred something luxurious, but today she wasn’t in the mood for anything fancy. She had her breakfast and wrote, I am going to meet a business partner. Don’t worry, I will come home late. It was for that woman that she drove her car, entering a dozen tall buildings before stopping in front of Vyra. It was the name of the building. The structure rose like a blade of glass against the skyline—slick, cold, yet powerful, just like the woman ploy was about to encounter. The Vyra building was beyond luxury. The floors were finely polished, and the interior was so perfect that ploy could not take her eyes off it. Out of nowhere, a waiter appeared, greeted her warmly, and told her to wait at table number 14, noting that it had been reserved for her. Ploy simply nodded, knowing that Davika had arranged it. In an instant, the doors opened. Every staff member rushed to the entrance and bowed toward the unknown guest. Ploy watched closely as the woman approached. She was taller than ploy had expected:slim, elegant, with her hair tied in a low, precise bun. She wore a black suit: luxurious but minimal. Her posture was relaxed, yet commanding. To ploy, it felt like a scene from a drama....the moment the heroine first appears. The woman turned slowly, and ploy saw her. There she was,not Eva, but the real Davika she had admired. She was more beautiful than ever. Davika walked toward her with confidence, each step precise, commanding attention without even trying. Ploy could not help but admire the way she carried herself—the subtle strength in her posture, the quiet intensity in her eyes. She was calm, unreadable, untouchable to anyone. “You must be ploy,” she said, sitting in front of her. When ploy heard her voice, her heart instantly fluttered. It was like relaxing music:low, clear, and steady. Nothing like Eva’s way of speaking. She was completely different from Eva, far more stunning and beautiful. It was ploy's first time meeting her face to face, and she felt an instant attraction. She was also secretly relieved that davika looked even more striking than she had imagined. There was no warmth in her voice, but no cruelty either. Just control. “You are really Davika,” she said softly, looking at her. It was not a question, but a quiet confrontation. Davika’s lips curved into the faintest smile. “Yes, I am. Though it seems my sister wore my name better than I expected,” she added lightly. Ploy did not say anything. “So how do you met her?” Davika asked, her gaze steady. Ploy recalled everything that had happened over the past few days and told her everything from start to finish. Davika listened quietly, absorbing every sharp detail ploy shared. She lied easily, but Davika spoke calmly as she poured water into glasses, offering one to ploy while drinking herself. Ploy could tell that Davika was starting to feel the stress of the situation. She seemed to pause, as if processing the truth ploy had revealed. Ploy looked up, meeting her gaze with more steadiness than before, and asked, “Then who is Eva? Why is she pretending to be you?” “Don’t worry, I will tell you everything. Because you are already in the middle of this, you deserve to know what you’re standing on before it breaks beneath you,” Davika said with a sigh. After listening, ploy grew even more afraid, fear began to take over her. Sensing it, Davika reassured her gently. “Hey, don’t worry. She won’t harm you. If she wanted to, she would have done it a long time ago.” But ploy wasn’t having any of it. Right now, she just wanted to run away from all of this. Davika started to speak again. “The girl you saved, the one you thought was me...that was my older sister, Eva.” She paused for a moment before adding, “She’s part of the mafia. She isn’t the person she appears to be. I don’t know why she’s staying with you, maybe it’s because of that incident. I’m not sure.” Ploy remained silent, listening to every word that left Davika’s lips. “Eva is a very dangerous criminal,” Davika continued. “She has over ten thousand people working under her all around the world. And now… we have to catch her.” Ploy finally spoke, her voice trembling. “But how? How can we catch her? And why should I even help you?” “Because you helped her,” Davika replied, her tone firm. “You helped her to be alive unknowingly. That day, when you raised your voice… she started to trust you.” Ploy was speechless. She didn’t know what to say or how to react. “ploy,” Davika said softly, reaching across the table to grab her hand. “Don’t worry. I will protect you. I know what you did was unknowingly, and you did it because of me. So, I have to protect you even if it costs me my life.” Her voice fell to a whisper as her eyes met ploy's, steady and sincere. Ploy felt a little relief knowing that Davika would protect her. She finally opened up. “I’m scared… I’m even afraid to go back to my own home,” she admitted. Davika got up from her seat and moved to ploy’s side. “I know you’re tense, unhappy, and I’m so sorry for that. It’s all because of me, and I will fix it,I promise. But please, just have faith in me,” she murmured softly. “Hey, but why did you go there? Knowing that something bad could happen… do you want to die or what?” Davika asked, trying to lighten the mood. Ploy looked at her and began to tell everything. But before she could even start, Davika stopped her. “Let’s go outside,” she suggested. They stepped outside together. The garden was filled with different kinds of flowers and trees, vibrant under the sunlight. They decided to sit under the shade of one tree, letting the calm surroundings ease the tension. There, ploy began to recount everything: the villa, how she had saved Eva, how Eva had been living with her, the small differences she had noticed that had sparked her suspicion, and how she eventually got to meet her. Davika listened intently, her expression serious, absorbing every detail ploy shared. They were talking so much about Eva and their business that they didn’t even realize it was already night. It was only when the same waiter who had helped ploy, waved and signaled them to come inside that they noticed it was dark. They were both shocked and even joked about it. They went to the same table as before and placed their orders. After dining, they were both ready to head home. Out of the blue, Davika grabbed Ploy’s hand and said, “Listen, keep pretending nothing has changed. She trusts you, and that makes you valuable to both of us. And don’t be scared,I’ll always help you. Here’s my card.” Ploy took the card, and they went their separate ways, promising to meet again tomorrow. Ploy went home. She was surprised to see that Eva had cooked all the food. “Hi, why are you so late today? Are you tired?” came a worried voice. “No, I’m surprised that you can cook too,” ploy said, pretending to be calm and fearless. She only ate a few bites since she was already full. Feeling tired, she went to sleep shortly after. She lay on her bed, staring at the ceiling, while Eva was downstairs. Ploy's mind couldn’t rest. Every word Davika had said replayed in her ears like a whisper: “Pretend you don’t know anything about Eva.” She turned onto her side, clutching her pillow as if it could answer her questions. Davika’s smile—and the way her eyes held a mix of warmth and fear—lingered in ploy’s mind. Burying her face in her pillow, she couldn’t stop thinking about Davika. Eventually, her eyelids grew heavy, and she whispered to herself, “Let me sleep, drift into sleep.” A quiet promise formed in her heart. Tomorrow, perhaps some of the questions swirling in her mind would finally find an answer.
