The Trapdoor Escape

776 Words
John tossed and turned in his bed, trying to get some rest. But sleep eluded him, and he couldn't shake off the feeling of unease that had been lingering since his encounter with Rachel. He kept replaying the events of the past few days in his mind, trying to make sense of what was happening to him. Suddenly, he felt a jolt of electricity run through his body. He sat up in bed, his heart racing. He knew what this meant - another dream was coming. The darkness lifted, and John found himself standing in the middle of a crowded street. He looked around, trying to orient himself. The people around him were rushing past, as if they had somewhere important to be. John started to walk down the street, following the flow of people. He felt a sense of urgency in the air, like something big was about to happen. As he turned the corner, he saw a large building in the distance. It was a skyscraper, with a sleek and modern design. John's attention was drawn to the top floor, where he saw a group of people standing on the balcony. They were looking down at the street below, as if they were waiting for something to happen. John felt a pang of unease in his gut - he knew that something was not right. He made his way towards the building, trying to get a better look at the people on the balcony. As he got closer, he realized that they were all wearing black suits, just like the men who had been chasing Rachel. John knew he had to be careful. He didn't want to get caught in their web again. But something inside him compelled him to keep moving forward. As he reached the entrance of the building, John saw a group of security guards standing in front of him. They were blocking the way, and John knew he wouldn't be able to get past them. But then, something strange happened. The security guards suddenly turned around, as if they had heard a noise. John took advantage of the distraction and slipped past them, running towards the elevator. He pressed the button for the top floor and waited anxiously as the elevator climbed higher and higher. When the doors finally opened, he found himself in a large, open-plan office. The room was filled with desks and computer monitors, and a group of people was huddled around a large screen on the wall. John walked towards them, trying to get a closer look. As he approached, he realized that they were all staring at a live video feed. The feed was showing a street view of the building below, where a large group of protesters had gathered. The protesters were chanting and waving signs, demanding justice for some unknown cause. John watched as the camera panned over the crowd, trying to find any sign of what they were protesting about. And then, he saw it. A man in the middle of the crowd was holding up a sign that read "Free Rachel Now". John's heart skipped a beat - Rachel was in trouble again. He turned around, trying to find a way out of the office. But he was too late - the men in black suits had already surrounded him. "We've been looking for you, John," one of them said, as he grabbed John by the arm. John struggled, trying to break free. But the man was too strong, and soon John found himself being dragged towards the elevator. As they descended to the ground floor, John tried to think of a way out. He knew that he couldn't let the men take him, or they would find out about his gift. And then, an idea struck him. He closed his eyes and concentrated on the dream. He pictured himself falling through a trapdoor, and as he opened his eyes, he found himself in his own bedroom, standing by his bed. The men in black suits were nowhere to be seen. John let out a sigh of relief - he had managed to escape again. But he knew that he couldn't keep running forever. He needed to find out what was going on, and how he could help Rachel. He had a feeling that this was only the beginning of a much larger, and more dangerous, plot. John made a decision then and there. He would use his gift to uncover the truth, no matter what the cost. He had a feeling that he was in way over his head, but he was determined to see it through to the end.
