The Unexpected Turn

The next morning, Emma woke up to a loud knock on her door. She groggily made her way to the front door, wondering who could be visiting her at such an early hour. When she opened the door, she was surprised to find Detective Green standing there, looking somber.

"Detective Green, what's going on? Is everything okay?" Emma asked, feeling a knot form in her stomach.

"Can I come in?" Green asked, his voice low.

Emma nodded and stepped aside, allowing Green to enter her apartment. She closed the door and turned to face him, waiting for him to explain why he was there.

"I have some news," Green began, his eyes sad. "We found the person responsible for the break-ins and attacks."

Emma's heart sank. "Who is it?" she asked, not sure if she wanted to know the answer.

"It's Liam," Green said, watching Emma's face for a reaction.

Emma gasped, feeling a mix of shock and betrayal wash over her. Liam, the man she had trusted and let into her life, was the one responsible for the terrifying events of the past few weeks.

"How did you find out?" Emma asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

"We received a tip from one of Liam's former colleagues," Green explained. "Apparently, Liam had been fired from his job at the advertising agency for stealing confidential information. He had become obsessed with you and was using the stolen information to try and sabotage your career."

Emma felt sick to her stomach, and the realization that she had let a dangerous person into her life hit her hard. "What happens now?" she asked, her mind racing.

"We have a warrant out for Liam's arrest," Green said. "We're tracking him down as we speak. But in the meantime, I need you to stay somewhere safe. We don't know what Liam is capable of, and we don't want him to come after you."

Emma nodded, feeling numb. She couldn't believe that the person she had trusted had been the one to cause her so much fear and anxiety. But at the same time, she felt grateful to Detective Green and the police for finding out the truth and taking action.

As Green left her apartment, Emma made the decision to stay with a friend until Liam was apprehended. She couldn't risk staying in her own apartment, not when Liam was still out there somewhere.

As she packed a bag, Emma couldn't help but wonder what other secrets Liam had been keeping from her. She knew that it would be a long road to recovery from the trauma he had caused, but she was determined to do whatever it took to move forward and regain control of her life.
