Jynx wanted to move forward and see Anil again, but she was still fragile and had issues every other day. At times, relapsing into her old habits and letting her thoughts hurt her time and time again. It was a marathon, not a sprint, though, and she wanted to get better. One evening, Jynx finally felt ready to reach out to Anil. She sent him a message, asking if they could meet. Anil responded immediately, suggesting they meet at a small café they used to frequent. Jynx agreed, her heart pounding with a mixture of excitement and anxiety. As she approached the café, she saw Anil waiting for her outside. He looked tired, but his eyes lit up when he saw her. “Jynx,” he said softly, opening his arms. She hesitated for a moment before stepping into his embrace. It felt good, and comforting, but she couldn’t shake the nagging doubts in the back of her mind. He looked at her and frowned, noticing her gaunt appearance and seeing how much she had lost in weight. His eyes darkened a little with worry, but he said nothing as he followed her inside. They found a quiet corner inside and ordered coffee. Anil reached across the table, taking her hand in his. “I’ve missed you so much,” he said, his voice full of emotion, "but are you okay... you look like you have lost a lot of weight.. have you been eating?" “I’ve missed you too,” Jynx replied, squeezing his hand, “and I had a very rough several weeks, I’m still struggling, Anil. I have good days and bad days. I’m trying to get better, but it’s hard.” Anil nodded, his eyes filled with understanding. “I know, Jynx. but I’m here for you every step of the way. You don’t have to face this alone... you have never had to face anything alone” As they talked, Jynx felt a small spark of hope. She could do this. They could do this together. But then, Anil’s phone buzzed with a message. He glanced at it quickly, and Jynx saw the name “Lily” flash on the screen. Her heart sank, and the familiar feeling of insecurity and jealousy surged within her. It felt like it was a never-ending roller coaster, and she was stuck on it. “Is that her?” Jynx asked, trying to keep her voice steady, fighting the urge to get up and leave. The voices slithered back into her mind as they took in the ammo presented. "he could not even let this be just the two of you" "He cant even let you be the only one for this" "she cant even leave him alone.. does she even know he is with you?" Anil looked up, his expression apologetic. “Yes, it’s Lily. She just wanted to let me know she’s here if we need her.” Jynx’s mind raced, her chest beginning to tighten as the old doubts crept in. “Anil, I can’t do this if she’s going to be a part of our lives right now. I’m not ready. Every time I think about her, I feel like I’m not enough. I know it’s not fair, but it’s how I feel.” Her chest got tighter as she felt her anxiety start to get the better of her. She had been doing well, but this was about to set her off again. She started to breath deeply and tried to calm herself down. Anil sighed, squeezing her hand gently. “I understand, Jynx. You are enough. More than enough. Lily knows this is something we need to work through together. She’s just trying to be supportive in her own way.” Jynx pulled her hand back, folding her arms defensively. “It doesn’t feel like that. It feels like she’s always going to be there, a reminder that I’m not enough for you. I want to build a future with you, Anil, but I can’t do that if she’s still in the picture.” Anil looked at her, his eyes filled with pain. “Jynx, I love you. You are my future. But Lily is also a part of my life. I need you to trust that my love for you is real, that it’s strong enough to handle this. I want you both..." Jynx shook her head, tears welling up in her eyes. “I don’t know if I can do that, Anil. Every time I see her name, every time I think about her, it tears me apart. I need to feel secure in our relationship, and right now, I don’t.” The voices continued their instigation and fed her insecurities. Anil reached across the table again, taking her hand. “Then let’s take it one step at a time. We don’t have to figure everything out right now. We’ll work through this together, just like we always have.” Jynx, trying desperately not to have a panic attack in the cafe, she took her had away from him. Jynx looked into his eyes, tears forming, "I am so sorry, Anil... but I don't think that is something I can handle at this stage of my recovery. I understand what you are saying, and I love you more than you could ever know, being this understanding. I just can not handle this... I want us to work through this... us... me and you, not me, you, and Lily. I can't do it, and I don't want to burden you with asking for it... " She stood, and took a deep breath,"I don't think we should see each other again until I am better, and figure out what I can handle, and you decide what you want." With that, she walked away from him again, leaving Anil sitting at the table, staring after her. His own tears filled his eyes. Why couldn't this just work?
