Chapter 9

George POV It had been a good couple of weeks but now I had to deal with the fact that this hitch was about to end. I didn’t have to leave and go back home to Georgia but at the same time I was about to be out of work. I had a week left of work and had yet to bring up the subject with Alena. Hell I was falling hard and fast for this girl. The bedroom fun was amazing and happened almost on a nightly basis but that wasn’t what I craved. I needed her company. I needed to have her close to me. I knew this would mean that breaching the subject of my hitch would devastate both of us. Still I had to have the balls to bring this up. And soon. I was waiting on Alena to finish her shift. I was sitting in the parking lot of the Burger King she worked at to surprise her as she had decided to walk today and lost in thought on how to breach the subject of my having to either find new work or head to the next hitch when I heard a knock at the window. Startled I reached for my waistband. “ Querido it’s me open up” I unlock the door hearing her voice. “what are you doing here?” she said as she climbed inside before scooting into the middle of my bench seat. As soon as she was beside me I kissed her deeply. “I couldn’t wait for you to get home and anyways I figured we could go out for a bit. We need to talk.” I watched as her face fell. “Can we go home and let me change first?” she said softly I can hear from her voice she was trying not to cry. s**t what the hell did I just do? I start the truck and head back to her place putting my arm around her holding her tightly against me, praying that she doesn’t start to cry I couldn’t handle that. When we reached the house she all but bolted out of the truck and into the house slamming the door. By the time I got to the front door Doug was there. “what the f**k did you do to her?” he screamed at me. I shake my head “I just said that we needed to talk and she freaked out almost crying. Man I just want to talk about the fact that my hitch is just about up. It ends next week “ I run a hand though my hair. Doug glares at me. Oh how id love to punch him in the face. “Dude she probably thinks your breaking up with her.” He sighs. “id never do that. Hell in another year or two I’ll buy that girl a ring. Wait should I get her one before the hitch is up?” he just stares and shakes his head at me pointing towards her room. I know exactly what he means and head over to her room where I hear her trying to cry quietly inside. f**k this I’m going in I think as I open the door and walk to my poor sad babygirl laying on the bed. “Jazmín please look at me.” I plead waiting for her to turn over. When she doesn’t I push her onto her back and look at her. “we need to talk about what to do when my hitch ends next week. That’s all. I’d take you home with me but you have classes.” “What?” she sniffles. “remember I told you I’m here for work and only for another month?” She nods so I continue, “that was three weeks ago my love. I can see if they have another up here but I want to know what you want me to do.” All of a sudden her tears turn to smiles and she hugs me “I want you here with me of course.” God this girl and her mood swings. At least she’s animate that I stay. “ill go to the hall first thing tomorrow.” I kiss her softly “though I’ll probably lose the hotel room.” I shrug I don’t actually use it anymore and I don’t have anything in it. She laughs and shakes her head. “I have to go home tomorrow so why don’t I wait till you get back and we can introduce you to the family.” “I am not meeting your parents. After everything I know about them I would probably kill them or at least kick their asses and put them in the hospital.” I was shocked she would even suggest something like that. Her parents took advantage and abused her. What I didn’t get from her I learned from Doug. I may want to punch him in the face from time to time but we have actually become what someone might loosely call friends. “No it’s Matt’s birthday Saturday so I’m going to Doug’s house for the party. You can meet them.” She smiled. “they are who I want to claim as family anyways. Well then and,” she blushes and stops taking. “And?” “well you” she spoke so softly I couldn’t tell if I imagined it or not. “We will be family sooner or later” I say kissing her forehead. “Now get dressed we’re going on a date.” She rushed to the closet and quickly got changed and came out wearing a red dress that hung off her shoulder and had an attached black collar. “Hell to the f**k no Alena get the hell out of that s**t and burn it! I told you you’re not wearing Red!” I couldn’t help but scream as seeing her sporting red like that got my blood f*****g boiling. She stood there staring at me tears about to fall. I took a few breaths and looked at her “babygirl you can’t wear that color it could get us shot especially with you on my arm.” I try to explain to her as gently as possible. My yelling must have brought Doug up because someone was pounding on the door by the time I stopped talking. “Dude we’re fine” I call to the door as I look in her closet to find something else for her to wear. I settle on a dark green dress that would fall to her knees. “please baby wear this?” she grabs the dress and heads to the bathroom to change. When the door opens Doug is still standing there. “Dude she picked that out for you ya know.” He hisses at me as soon as the bathroom closes. “why the hell did you freak the f**k out on her she looks good.” I sigh “I just hate red ok?” “Seriously you freaked because you don’t like the color what the hell is wrong with you?” he didn’t wait for a response and just turned and left. Shit I f****d that up but I was taking her to little Mexico tonight. I had to make sure we didn’t die because she thought she looked cute. I ran my hand though my hair. If she wanted us together we needed to talk about the dos and don’ts of life with me. It took her about 20 minutes before she came back to the room and my god she looked beautiful. She had redone her makeup using what looked like a dark green for her eyeliner and everything else was a natural color. I couldn’t stop staring at her. As she turned in a circle I noticed that she has wrapped her green bandana in her ponytail before making it into a bun. I couldn’t seem to form words to even compliment her. “Am I ok?” she asked softly as she walked up and closed my mouth. “You look like a goddamn angel.” I say breathlessly. “I am sorry for yelling my Jazmín.” I kiss her lips gently. “I know” she giggles “but I’m still gonna make sure you never forget it tonight.” She gives me an evil grin. “Shall we go?” I nod and offer her my arm which she takes after grabbing a small black purse. And we head out to the truck. I wait until we are well on our way before grabbing her hand. “Alena we need to talk about your closet. Especially if you want to be together like I do. We already went over green yellow black and white but I never really explained what you shouldn’t be wearing so really the dress is my fault. Look as you know, thanks to Hector, I run with the kings and virgin islands. But you see Red belongs to the Bloods and Blue belongs to the Folk. Please babygirl for your safety just do me a favor and don’t wear those two colors. Anything else is cool. Can you do that?” “Does that include my bra and panties?” damn she’s a smart ass. “you better not be putting those on display.” I say taking a quick look at her and noticing her smirk. “I know you’re joking but can you please take this seriously?” “fine no more red or blue clothes, but only because I love you, querido.” “do you really mean that Alena?” I glance over and see her blushing “yeah I do. I love you George. After all I know you are my other half. The only person who could ever make me whole.” She leans over and kisses my cheek. “I love you too Lena even if you are sappy.” I kiss her hand. The rest of the ride we are silent though my mind is racing with the words she said. My sweet girl loves me. She really loves me. God I need to marry this girl. We are almost there when my phone rings. I check the number and realize it is the hall in GA. “Hello?” “George I have some good news for you there’s a hitch in Elwood IL that is requesting you for next week. Instead of heading back here go there it’s a 3 month hitch.” “Yes sir. I’ll report in once this one is finished. Thank you” I hang up the phone and look over at Alena. “well shorty it looks like I have my next hitch already but good news is I’ll only be an hour and a half from you so I’ll come over every weekend and if I have any extra time off. Also it means I’m close by for 3 more months.” “that’s perfect. Classes will be over and I can grab all online classes after that so I can follow you if you have to go somewhere else.” She says excitedly before looking down. “I mean if that’s ok with you.” The last comes out almost as a whisper. “You’re willing to follow me all around the world?” I grin as I pull into a parking spot at Hector’s family restaurant. She nods before looking up and seeing where we were. “Oh my god I haven’t been here in over a year it’s my favorite place! They have the best homemade Flan.” She squeals. I get out and open her door helping her down before we walk hand and hand inside. “Jorge!” Hector comes up to us shaking my hand. “Hows it going brother?” “Hola primo. ¿Es la Tía Christina aquí?” I stare at Alena surprised to hear her speaking to my friend in Spanish. “Maria!” Hector kisses her cheeks causing me to almost growl at him. “Hands off Hector you may be my brother but I’ll kick your ass over my Jazmín.” Alena and Hector laugh at my reaction before Hector yells something through the whole restaurant and most of the kitchen and wait staff come running. Well it is still a date if everyone in the restaurant is trying to steal her attention and speaking a language I barely can pick up right? I sigh and figure this can’t last too long.
