The hospital corridors were quieter now. The chaos of earlier was replaced with an eerie stillness. But inside Michelle’s room, James couldn't find peace. His fingers gently traced the back of her hand, his thumb running over her wedding ring. "You scared me tonight, love," he whispered, his voice rough. "Twice." The machines beeped steadily, a fragile promise that Michelle was still with him. That she was still fighting. A soft knock on the door pulled James from his thoughts.
