CHAPTER THREE

With a sigh of boredom, Reymond lounged in the sitting room, his bandaged body aching. He switched on the TV, deciding to watch the news. REPORTER; Mr. James Handson has been apprehended by authorities on multiple serious charges. Currently held in custody, Mr. Handson faces allegations of k********g, drug trafficking, and attempted murder. Law enforcement agencies are conducting thorough investigations into the case, and further details are expected to follow.”. Following the departure of its principal figure, the company now confronts a period of considerable adversity. Dwayne's enterprise, currently holding a dominant position within the market and serving as the primary supplier for his district, further intensifies the competitive pressure. As a result, the probability of the company's financial collapse has significantly increased, casting uncertainty over its future sustainability and stability. Reymond's eyes shone with a pity that wasn't real as he leaned in to listen. "Good thing I slipped the cops some cash to keep my name out of that mess," he thought. "And that, my friend, is karma for crossing paths with my homie,” Kai whispered with a smirk. Putting way more swagger into it than his short stature probably would. As the youngest, Kai was easily the most enchanting. His looks might not have been as dramatic as Reymond’s, but they were enough to make any crowd of girls swoon. With a fashion sense that was always on point, he had become the most renowned model in San Francisco. “Hey, buddy, what's up,” Reymond responded. “Wait, hold up! Jason and Alex? They're not here? I thought they were coming too!" He asked, his voice as puzzled as a cat trying to figure out a cucumber. "They're headed here, just had a little chit-chat on the phone," Reymond declared dramatically. Alright, cool, kai stated. "Bro, not to poke my nose in or anything, but haven’t you been riding the single train a bit too long? Like, no... y’know... urges? Are you secretly team rainbow now?” Kai teased, winking. Raymond then gave him a look so intense it could've sharpened a butter knife, eyes twinkling with "I could end you" vibes Right before he could say anything, his phone interrupted him with a ring, "who could that be?" Kai inquired curiously, "it's Jason," Reymond responded, his expression puzzled. "Yo, where you at?" Reymond asked as he picked up the phone. Jason responded, "change of plans buddy, meet us at the bar downtown. “Okay, sounds good,” Reymond replied before hanging up the phone. Looking at Kai with a playful expression, he remarked, "You down for a little ride?” *** Katherine was running late for work and was caught in traffic. Frustrated, she sighed, “It's official; today is when I meet my maker! How do I even explain this to that whack job of a boss? Maybe I should just write my resignation in the sky and hope for divine intervention!” Katherine held two jobs, working one during the day and another at night. By day, she works as a waitress for a culinary staff, and at night, she waits tables at a downtown bar where she just secured a position, She aimed to avoid giving her boss the impression that she's unreliable by being late. To prevent her mother from working overtime, she began taking on night jobs. She was fully aware that her father would never approve, but with him absent for the moment, she had to take complete responsibility for their well-being. Upon arriving at the bar, she caught her best friend’s gaze. “Where on earth have you been?” Karen inquired, her tone filled with genuine curiosity. “Darling, you won’t believe me if I tell you,” Katherine said, her tone defensive, “is the. boss around?” “Yes, he asked that you go straight to his office the moment you arrive,” Karen said softly, her voice laced with compassion. “Great, I’m done for!” Katherine yelped with a hint of panic. She was reluctant at first, thinking about leaving right now, thereby quitting her job instead of letting that good-for-nothing boss get the honor of doing it for her; “I'll be on my way home now, Karen; it's already put to stone that the universe hates me, I just got this job, you know?” She said her expression clouded with remorse. “Are you crazy? How sure are you that you're gonna get fired? I doubt it, Karen spoke with voice full of confidence. Plus, have you noticed the way the boss looks at you? Well, I have, and I'm certain you're up for a promotion even if you slap his wife! “Looks at me? What do you even mean?” With a confused look, Katherine asked. “You must be out of your mind if you tell me you haven't noticed the boss staring at you like you're some kind of meal ready to be devoured,” Karen muttered, her tone filled with amusement. “Well, that's on you; I'll be on my way to his office now; thanks for the unnecessary info, though.” “You're welcome babe,” Karen said jokingly.
