Lillian’s POV
After my family left, the apartment felt empty.
All I could think about was Chase. I had to get through the finals but it was hard trying to focus. Broc was great and helped me to study.
I have been living with no sleep. College was a lot harder than I thought.
The next two days were my finals and I was exhausted.
I managed to get through the first day and usually I would have made my way to the art room but I was beyond exhausted and I just wanted to go home.
Nana and Papa weren’t home so I grabbed a bottled water and made my way to my room and crawled into bed. Before I knew it, Nana was waking me up for dinner.
“Are you feeling OK sweet heart?” She placed her hand on my head.
“I’m find Nana.”
“You feel a little warm.”
“I just haven’t slept much because of the finals and I’m just really tired.”
“I still don’t like it.”
I pushed my food around on the plate and took small bites. I wasn’t hungry at all, but I didn’t want Nana to worry.
As soon as dinner was done, I made my way back to bed and slept until the morning.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My alarm went off and I felt even worse. I took a hot shower hoping to feel better but I didn’t.
I pulled my hair into a pony and put on an over-sized hoody and leggings. I didn’t even get breakfast. I just made my way to my final.
I struggled through the final, and in a haze made my way out the door.
“Hey Buttercup….Are you OK?”
“Yeah I am just really tired… too many long nights studying late.”
“No, you look like you’re sick.”
“I’m not sick, I’m just tired.” Wolves don’t really get sick. I mean, I don’t have a wolf yet, but I have never been sick.
“Come on, let me help you home.”
We were making our way out of the building and I had to sit down. My head was pounding like something I had never felt before.
“Broc, maybe I don’t feel good.”
“Just relax, I’ll call your Nana and see if she can pick you up and get you to the doctor. Hand me your phone.”
“No, I’m fine, I just need to go home and sleep.”
I stood up too fast and everything felt like it was spinning. I couldn’t focus. I could hear Broc talking but it was muffled and then everything went black.
I woke in a fog. It took a minute to realize I was in a hospital.
I looked to my right and saw Nana and Papa sitting on the couch asleep. I heard somebody move to my right and I turned to see Broc sitting in a chair right next to my bed.
I shifted to try and find a clock and must have bumped him.
“Hey, you're awake.” He said, his voice groggy.
“Yeah, what happened?”
“You passed out on me and I called an ambulance.”
“Oh gosh I am so sorry.”
“No need to be sorry. I am going to let the nurse know you are awake.”
“Ok.”
I watched as he gently woke Nana before leaving the room.
“Lillian, you gave us quite a scare. Your parents only left about an hour ago to shower and come back.”
“How long was I asleep?” I asked, confused.
“Two days, kiddo.”
“I see our patient is awake.”, a short tan doctor said, walking into the room.
I smiled over at him.
He did a quick check and before he was done my parents were back.
“You have the flu. You were extremely dehydrated and I am guessing you were not getting the right amount of rest.”
“I’ve never had the flu before.”
The Doctor looked at me like I had grown two heads.
“Well, we are going to keep you tonight and you should be able to leave in the morning, but I want you to rest.”
“Can she travel?” Mom asked.
“I wouldn't suggest it. Even with medicine, this will take at least 2 weeks to make it through her system and traveling could make it longer for her to recover.”
“I guess we are having Christmas here,” Dad said.
“You guys don’t have to, I can just call.”
“We are family and we are spending Christmas together.” My Mother added.
“ OK.” I couldn’t help but feel happy. Of course, I want to see my family during the holidays. Even if I am sick.
The following day, I was released from the hospital and taken back to the apartment. I was set up in the art room so my parents could have my room. They tried to say no but I didn’t allow it.
I started feeling better and by Christmas I had enough energy to sit on the couch with the rest of the family.
After we exchanged gifts and had breakfast, my father looked at me. “It’s time for you to call Chase.”
“I know.”
I walked to the art room and got comfortable on the bed. I was beyond nervous and I didn’t know why.
What if he didn’t want me anymore? I had stayed away and not called him for so long.
I sat and looked at my screen and then unblocked his number.
Taking a deep breath, I pressed the call button.
My heart felt like it was beating out of my chest.
“Lillie?”
