Chapter 4 - Fire & Blood
The air crackled with power. The heat from the Demon Lord’s flames clashed with the cold darkness radiating from Lucian. I stood frozen between them, my heart pounding so loudly I was sure they both could hear it.
“You reek of blood, Vampire,” the Demon Lord growled, his amber eyes narrowing at Lucian. “Couldn’t resist sinking your fangs into what doesn’t belong to you?”
Lucian’s lips curved into that maddening smirk. “Belong? To you? Don’t make me laugh, Azrael. She’s mine. She came to me first.”
I gasped. “I am not yours!” My voice echoed across the throne room, but neither man flinched. Their power was suffocating me, pulling me in opposite directions.
Azrael—the Demon Lord—stepped forward, flames licking up his arm, illuminating the shadows Lucian commanded. His gaze softened for just a second as it met mine. “You don’t belong in his darkness, Morgana. He’ll drain you dry. But me… I can make you burn alive.”
Lucian’s crimson eyes gleamed dangerously, his smirk never fading. “She already burns for me. Don’t you, little queen?”
Heat rushed up my neck, traitorous and undeniable. I hated how his voice could make my body tremble, how even the air seemed to thrum when he was near. And yet, when Azrael’s fiery gaze swept over me, it was like every nerve lit up, raw and hungry.
My knees weakened as I stumbled back, my body betraying me. “Stop it!” I cried, but the words were breathless, softer than I intended.
Lucian moved first, one heartbeat and he was in front of me, his cool fingers brushing my cheek. His voice was velvet, poisonous and sweet.
“You think you hate me,” he murmured, tilting my chin up, “but your pulse says otherwise. I can hear it… racing for me.”
Before I could pull away, Azrael was there—heat searing against my skin as his hand caught my wrist. His touch was fire, burning yet thrilling. “Don’t let him twist you, Morgana. He’ll make you a shadow of yourself. With me, you’ll blaze brighter than any star.”
I was caught—between shadow and flame, their bodies closing in, their scents intoxicating, their power drowning me. My breath came shallow, my heart threatening to burst.
“Stop it!” I gasped again, clutching my chest. “Both of you… stay away from me!”
The throne room shook violently, as though the very castle itself answered my cries. Torches flared, shadows writhed, and a tremor ran beneath my feet.
Both men froze, their power retreating just slightly, their eyes locked on me with something I had never seen on either of them before.
Recognition.
“Morgana…” Lucian whispered, standing abruptly, his smirk gone.
Azrael’s flames flickered higher, his gaze burning into mine.
“You don’t even know what you are… do you?”
