Dazed, panicked, I entered what I guessed passed as a gym or a training center for shifters on the other side of the ballroom. I'd hidden the bloody scarf in the only place I could think of - inside an old plastic bag in my bathroom's toilet tank. No one would go looking there. As for my phone, anyone could've taken it. Including Annecy, whom I hadn't seen all day. Did she do it? But I thought she was my friend, or at least one of the only people here close to a friend. Friend or not, it sure seemed that if Kat, a shifter, had been hurt - or worse, killed - any one of us could be on the literal chopping block. So who was next? And who was doing the chopping? My mind a swirling mess of unease, I dragged myself toward the boxing ring in the gym's center. Heavy bags hung in one corner
