"Time to eat." The guard rattled the bars to punctuate his announcement before sliding a plate underneath the door. Already? It was unnerving, having no sense of where I was in the day beyond the changing of the guards. They had changed another three times since Connolly had left, so it had been at least a full day. I reached for the plate and instantly regretted it.
