The day after Benjamin and Felicity announced their engagement, I received a link to a live broadcast.
Watching the stream, I saw Felicity inside a church, turning over and examining an urn that had been placed there in remembrance.
I recognized it instantly. It was the urn holding the actual remains of my little daughter, Alice.
My heart clenched sharply in my chest.
Felicity smiled with extreme triumph.
"Adelaide, no wonder you did not seem upset that day. So you hid the ashes of this little unwanted thing so carefully, and even had the priests recite prayers for her. Does she really deserve such an honor?
"Your son has turned against you, and you could not even protect your own daughter. Adelaide, after all these years, no one has ever truly loved you. Isn't that pathetic?" Her voice was loud and arrogant, her eyes burning with malice.
Then she simply loosened her grip. The urn crashed to the floor, and fine gray ash spilled out across the ground.
"Oops, how clumsy of me. I did not hold it tightly enough."
Felicity continued, speaking in a haughty, commanding tone, "Adelaide, if you send me a video right now showing you kneeling and barking like a dog... perhaps I will be generous enough to gather your daughter's ashes and put them back inside.
"If you refuse, you can expect to see them dumped straight into the sewage tank!"
I remained completely still, making no move at all.
Felicity waited for a long time, and her face on the screen grew more twisted and furious.
Finally, she screamed at the top of her voice, "You will not even kneel? Your so‑called motherly love is worth nothing! This poor little thing... her father did not want her, and her mother did not even care enough to beg for her!"
She kicked over a large plastic bucket beside her, and filthy waste water poured directly over the scattered ashes.
Her expression turned wild and unhinged.
She then held up a charm doll inscribed with Alice's birth details, its body pierced all over with silver needles.
Watching this, I was seized by a sharp, wrenching pain in my chest, and my nails dug so deep into my palms that they nearly drew blood.
She picked up another needle and drove it into the doll again and again.
"I will use your daughter's soul as a sacrifice to bring blessings to the baby I'm carrying! I'll make sure that little wretch never finds peace—not in this life, not in the next."
I stared coldly at her wild, arrogant display, holding back the fury that threatened to burst from my chest.
"Alice, wait just a little longer. I will make sure those worthless pieces of trash rot in hell!"
I switched off my phone without another word.
The living always matters more than the dead.
Even if this was the most precious thing I had ever lost, no one would ever succeed in using it to threaten me.
And I would make them remember, with their very lives, what'd happen to those who dared to challenge me.
"Mrs. Weston, cancel the original plan. I want these two to suffer far worse than death. And we will make it happen on the day of their wedding!"
