chapter 5

My world had always been a solid thing, a collection of facts and predictable outcomes. But it had started to bleed at the edges. One morning, the coffee I made seemed to taste richer, more complex than it ever had before. A routine walk to the corner store became a feast for the senses, the sound of the city's hum transforming into a vibrant symphony. My heart was the metronome of this change, its beat a steady, undeniable pull towards a specific direction, a specific person. I didn't know her name, but I knew her presence. It began subtly. I’d be walking and suddenly feel a change in the air, a warmth that wasn’t a product of the sun. The world would brighten for a moment, the colors sharpening with a clarity that made my head spin. I’d stop and look around, and in my mind, I could almost hear the faintest echo of a laugh, a sound that felt both familiar and completely new. This had to be the effect of the dream, a byproduct of the incredible connection we had forged. I started to follow the feeling, the compass in my chest. It led me to places I had no reason to go. An art gallery I’d never visited, a park I’d always avoided. I wasn't looking for a face in the crowd. I was looking for a person whose very existence seemed to hum with the same melody as mine. I knew that she, too, was searching. I could feel her, a distant but persistent star in my new sky, and my only goal was to find the way to her.
