The Hunter's suspicion

297 Words
The night was eerily silent as Raven navigated the back alleys of the city, her heart still pounding from the fight club’s chaos. She had managed to slip away before drawing too much attention, but the weight of the stranger’s piercing gaze lingered in her mind. There was something about him—an air of danger that felt too familiar. She shook the thought away and focused on her mission. The pack’s safe house was nearby, a hidden refuge for outcasts like herself. But just as she turned the corner, the scent of burning sage and silver filled the air. Witch hunters. Raven’s pulse quickened. She pressed herself against the shadows, scanning the area. Then she saw him—Caleb, the hunter from the fight club. He stood with a group of hunters, his expression cold and unreadable. Had he followed her? Or worse—had he already figured out what she was? Caleb clenched his fists as he observed the crime scene before him. A rogue witch had been executed, her body left as a warning. The hunters around him murmured about recent sightings of a powerful hybrid, a werewolf-witch. Impossible, he thought. Such beings were myths. Yet, his mind drifted back to the fierce woman he had encountered earlier. The way she fought, the way her eyes glowed for a brief second under the dim light—it unsettled him. Could she be the one they were hunting? Determined to find out, Caleb gave his men orders to spread out. He had a feeling the hybrid wasn’t far. Raven watched from her hiding spot, her breath shallow. If she wasn’t careful, she’d end up like the witch before her. But she wasn’t going to run. She was done running. It was time to fight back.
