It was after eleven o'clock when Melina closed the book and put it on the bedside table. She lifted her hand and placed it on her belly, stroking it through the nightclothes. The moon was full. It was beautiful outside. That shouldn't mean anything. But now it seemed to make all the difference. She even left the window slightly open. Not for herself. But for the baby. It seemed like the right thing to do. The house was always quieter on full moon nights. They didn't turn on the lights outside and the whole garden was covered in deep darkness. There was very little lighting. It looked like they wanted to hide something. Nothing seemed to make sense. Melina stopped wondering why.
