Joice saw Melina on the sofa, her face still carrying a frightening shadow. She looked frightened and uneasy, as if he were a monster. He wished he could prevent her from seeing them or being scared like that. The first night was crucial. Joice wasn't bad at all. Joice was just worse with people who were bad for him or those he cared about. He knew that didn't justify everything, but he would protect his own. It was necessary. He knew she might not understand, but he would be patient if she didn't accept it or went to the police saying she had seen big wolves in her yard. "Melina?" The image of the animals appeared, the wolves attacking her. She had to shake her head to push those thoughts away. She was fine now. She didn't have to worry about anything, but the fright had been immense.
