âGracie,â Hugh stopped a very rich, older female Almighty as she walked past. âIâm so glad you made it.â This was one of the few times tonight heâd said that and had actually meant it.
âHugh.â She gave him a half-hug. âItâs so good to see you.â Her smile stretched the red arrow birthmark on her cheek, making it quiver like itâd been shot from a bow. âYour mother would be so proud of you.â
âThank you.â It was a kind thing to say and probably true, but he still wanted tonight to end. The party was a success, but he was miserable. Trinity should be here at his side. He wanted to proclaim to the world that she was his, and that inequalities between the classes would not be tolerated. Instead, he was here by himself
