Luna stood at the foot of the mountain and stared in to the forest that the assailants had run in to.
She could still smell them and if she tracked them for a few hours, she would definitely find them.
She desperately wanted to go after them, she wanted nothing more than to wipe them off the face of the Earth but still, she didn't move any further.
She knew what her Mama would have wanted her to do in this situation and chasing after these people was not it because that would mean leaving her grieving Pack alone.
She knew that she didn't have to chase after them, after all,the Pack's trackers could easily do that but she wanted to be the one to kill them and she also wanted to be away.
Maybe if she wasn't staring at her Mama's lifeless eyes, she wouldn't have to believe her Mama was dead.
She raised her head and howled painfully, her wolf was even more hurt than she was and had reclined even farther than she usually was.
On a normal day,Luna would have tried to entice her wolf in to coming out to talk to her even though she knew it wasn't possible because she wasn't eighteen yet but today, she was glad that she hadn't fully matured.
Your wolf was susceptible to every little change in your emotions which meant that she would have been in more pain if she had full access to her wolf.
She could not imagine that there was any pain greater than the one that clutched at her heart right now.
But that was the pain her father probably felt right now.
Her Father was still in shock,he needed her,her people needed her, this was not the time to chase after the assailants.
She instead took a deep breath, burning every of their scents in to her memory and making a promise to herself to find everyone of those scents and ending their owners.
She turned around, Changing in to her human form as she began to climb up the mountain.
She usually enjoyed the exertion of climbing up the mountain but tonight, she felt nothing.
She wept as she climbed, cursing everyone and everything she could think of that was responsible for her agony.
When Luna reached the top of the mountain, she noticed someone standing under a tree.
She sniffed a little and frowned.
"What are you doing here?",She asked the person.
"I was watching you",The figure replied, leaving the shade of the tree to meet Luna.
"Watching me?",Luna asked,confused.
"Yeah,I was waiting for you to make up your mind,if you had decided to go after them,I wanted to go with you",He said, smiling sadly at Luna before stepping forward to hug her.
The tears poured out even harder as she held on to her best friend.
"Charly, they killed Mama…,they killed her and Father looks just as dead as Mama",She sobbed as she held on to him.
"I know,I saw them,he still hasn't let go of her",Charly told her.
Luna wasn't crying just for her sadness.
She was also crying for her father because she knew what happened when your mate bond was so abruptly ripped off.
She had heard stories of how Wolves had gone rogue, abandoning the code because of the pain.
You would think that the pain would be more bearable by Alphas but it was even worse for them.
The more strength you had,the more you would need to mourn.
"You should go be with him,he might not recognize you but his wolf will and they'll find comfort in you",Charly told her.
Luna nodded and stepped out of his embrace, watching listlessly as he put his jacket over her to cover her nakedness.
When he was done,he took her hand and they began to walk in silence.
"I'll always be here for you",he whispered to her just as soon as they approached the rest of the Pack.
He took his hand out of hers and disappeared,a gesture she silently appreciated.
She didn't want to be perceived as weak and seeking comfort.
The Pack parted to let her reach her Father who still knelt in the position she had left him.
She knelt next to him and took his hands.
"Alpha,I am here to do your bidding, command me",She said as loud as her heart could let her.
Her father finally looked up at her and she could see in his eyes that for a second,he did not recognize her.
When he finally did,he squeezed her hands, hard enough to break the bones of a regular person.
"Do you know who did this?",He asked her softly.
"I left some of them alive and Nico is getting them ready for me,by morning, we'll know everything we need to know",She answered.
"Morning…",Her father trailed off,his eyes moving in the direction of her Mama,a direction that Luna avoided.
She couldn't break down,not here.
The Pack had already seen too much vulnerability from her family today.
If she broke down now, they would question their strength as Alphas.
Finally,her father looked up.
His eyes were gold,he was using his Alpha gaze.
Luna was an Alpha too but her Father was still her Alpha so she found herself bowing her head immediately, the closer you were to an Alpha's gaze, the harder it was to resist.
"Tonight,we shall bury and mourn for our Luna and tomorrow, when the sun rises,we will find our enemies and show them why we are not to be trifled with",Her father growled out.
The gathering broke into several rounds of howling while her Father eventually got on his feet, still holding her Mama.
"Let's take your mother to the very top of the mountain where she can have a view of the world that she would have loved",He told her.
She followed after him, while the Pack followed after them,a few paces behind.
"You know, little Wolf,it's okay to cry",Her father said softly as they walked.
"I don't want to be perceived as weak",She answered immediately.
"No one would call you weak for mourning the woman who gave birth to you and loved you all her life",he replied her softly.
She said nothing.
Finally,she spoke,her voice cracking.
"Tomorrow... tomorrow. Why can't we just bury her tomorrow? Please,Father",She sobbed softly.
"That there is the actual weakness, little Wolf. Don't you see? It doesn't matter what we decide to do,Your Mama will always be with us. Even now, when I close my eyes,I can still hear her voice",He said to her.
Luna was quiet, she really couldn't hear anything but she said nothing.
They walked to the highest part of the mountain where a wooden pyre waited.
The rest of the Pack didn't accompany them this far out, only the Beta and his family and the Gamma's wife.
She wondered if Helena knew about her mate's death, she probably felt it too.
The Beta couple and Helena stood a few steps behind Luna and their Alpha.
She watched as her father carefully placed her Mama on the pyre.
He then took off her necklace,it was a ruby that she had always worn.
"Your mother would want you to have this",He told her as he held it out for her.
Luna hesitated before finally accepting it.
She held it tightly, smiling as the jagged ends of the jewelry cut her palms.
Her father bent down and kissed her Mama softly and held his hand out for Luna to come forward.
She knelt down by the pyre, smiling softly.
Her Mama looked beautiful even now.
"We should have had pie for dinner",She said softly, remembering the argument they had over dinner.
"Yes,we should have",Her father replied.
Her Mama wanted to have blueberry pie for dinner,Luna and her father had laughed and insisted on steak, promising her mama that they could have pie the next day at dinner.
She smiled softly as she touched her Mama's fingers.
"Their children, their brothers, their sisters, their elderly parents will all pay Mama,I'll rain terror on everyone who did this to you",She said softly before kissing her Mama and getting on her feet.
She turned around and left, she couldn't bear to watch her Mama get cremated.
She reached Beta Nico and smiled softly at his wife,Astrid and their son,her best friend, Charly.
She held her hand out and Beta Nico dropped a bunch of keys on to her hand.
She turned around just as she noticed Astrid trying to say something to her.
Probably something that was supposed to be comforting or telling her how to grieve.
Tonight, she would listen to no more words of comfort.
The only thing she would hear were the cries of her enemies.
