I woke before six a.m. and looked around in confusion at first. As my brain processed everything, I realized what all had happened and rubbed the sleep from my eyes. It was the first time I’ve ever slept without a single dream and I reveled in it for a few minutes. It was peaceful. I couldn’t bring myself to stand and move at first. I ran my fingers over the length of his arm and traced the cracks in his palms. It was comforting, I found myself wishing to remain at his side a moment longer. I sighed and reluctantly stood, grabbing a thin blanket from a sofa and covering his form before leaving.
