The next morning, Elsa arrived at Kingston Group ten minutes early. She was determined not to give anyone a reason to complain. As she walked into the cafeteria, the staff greeted her warmly. "Good morning, Elsa!"
"Morning, everyone." Even Brenda, who had been cold toward her the previous day, only gave a brief nod before returning to work. Elsa smiled. Maybe things were getting better.
She had no idea that someone else had different plans
On the executive floor. Vanessa sat behind her desk, her face hard with anger. She replayed the scene from the previous afternoon over and over in her mind. Gabriel smiling at Elsa comfortably inside his office.
She clenched her fists. "I've waited years for Gabriel," she muttered. "I'm not going to lose him to some ordinary delivery girl." She pressed the intercom.
"Ask Brenda to come to my office." A few minutes later, Brenda walked in. "You wanted to see me, ma'am?" Vanessa smiled, but there was nothing friendly about it.
"I have a small favor to ask." Brenda listened carefully as Vanessa explained her plan. When she finished, Brenda hesitated. "But... what if we get caught?"
Vanessa leaned back in her chair. "We won't." Then she placed an envelope on the desk. Brenda looked inside. Money. A lot of it. She swallowed hard before nodding. "I understand."
Back in the cafeteria, lunch preparations were in full swing. Everyone rushed around, trying to complete hundreds of meal orders before noon. Elsa checked every tray carefully. "No mistakes," she reminded herself.
As she turned to collect another order, Brenda quietly switched one of the lunch trays. She smiled to herself. "Let's see how long your perfect reputation lasts." Brenda said.
At exactly noon, Elsa and Noah began delivering meals across the building. Everything went smoothly until they reached the Finance Department. A senior manager opened his lunch. His face immediately changed.
"What is this?" Elsa looked confused. "Sir?"
"My meal is wrong!" The manager stood up angrily. "I'm allergic to seafood! Who packed this?" Employees nearby stopped working and stared.
"I'm so sorry," Elsa said quickly. "There must have been a mistake."
"A mistake?" the manager snapped. "If I had eaten this, I could have ended up in the hospital!" Noah immediately apologized. "We'll replace it right away." The manager wasn't satisfied. "I want to report this."
Elsa felt her heart sink. News of the incident spread through the company within minutes. When Gabriel heard about it, he left his meeting immediately. He arrived at the Finance Department just as Elsa stood there apologizing.
"What happened?" he asked. The manager explained everything. Gabriel listened carefully before turning to Elsa. "Did you pack this tray yourself?"
Elsa shook her head. "No, sir. I checked the orders, but I didn't switch anything." Gabriel looked into her eyes. He didn't see panic. He saw honesty. "I believe you," he said calmly.
Those three words shocked everyone. Even Noah blinked in surprise. The angry manager frowned. "But someone made this mistake." Gabriel nodded. "And we'll find out who."
Upstairs, Vanessa watched everything through the glass wall of her office. She smiled proudly. "Perfect."
But her smile slowly disappeared when she saw Gabriel standing beside Elsa instead of blaming her. Instead of sending her away... He defended her.
Vanessa's face darkened. "Why does he trust her so much?"
Later that afternoon, Gabriel called the cafeteria supervisor into his office. "I want every security camera recording from the kitchen this morning."
The supervisor nodded.. "Right away, sir." Outside the office, Noah smiled to himself. "If someone framed Elsa," he whispered, "they're about to regret it."
Meanwhile, Brenda sat alone in the cafeteria, nervously tapping her fingers on the table. She had completely forgotten one thing. Kingston Group had security cameras in every corner of the kitchen. As the footage began loading in the security room, Brenda's face turned pale. "The cameras..." she whispered.
Her heartbeat quickened. "If they watch the recording..." She knew her secret wouldn't stay hidden for long.
