Later that morning, Elsa arrived at the restaurant.Jake was standing outside with a worried expression."You came."
Elsa blinked."Shouldn't I?"
"The mechanic just called."Her heart skipped a beat.
"My motorcycle?" Jake nodded. "The repair will take at least a week."
Elsa's smile disappeared. "A week?"
Jake sighed. "I'm sorry."
Elsa looked down at the ground. Without her motorcycle, she couldn't make deliveries. Without deliveries... She couldn't earn enough money.
Mia immediately wrapped an arm around her shoulders. "We'll figure something out."
Elsa forced a smile. "I hope so." Before anyone could say another word, another familiar black car pulled up in front of the restaurant. Mia covered her face. "Again?"
Jake laughed. "I think this place has become Mr. Kingston's second office."
The car door opened. Gabriel stepped out, followed by Noah.
Noah smiled the moment he saw Elsa. "Good morning!"
Elsa smiled politely. "Morning." Gabriel noticed the worried expression on her face. "What happened?" Jake answered before Elsa could. "The repairs will take a week."
Gabriel looked at Elsa. "And during that week?"
"I won't be able to work." Silence fell between them. Gabriel thought for a moment. Then an idea crossed his mind. "I have a proposal."
Elsa folded her arms. "I'm listening."
"My company cafeteria delivers meals to different departments every afternoon." She looked confused. "So?"
"We're short one person this week." Noah's eyes widened. Gabriel ignored him. "You can work at Kingston Group until your motorcycle is repaired."
Elsa stared at him. "You want me to work... at your company?"
"Temporarily." Mia's jaw dropped. Jake looked impressed. Noah smiled knowingly. Elsa shook her head. "I don't know."
"It isn't charity," Gabriel said before she could refuse. "It's paid work." That made her pause. Paid work. Exactly what she needed. She looked at Jake. "What do you think?"
Jake smiled. "I think opportunities don't knock twice." Elsa looked back at Gabriel. A slow smile spread across her face. "Fine."
Gabriel nodded. "Report to Kingston Group tomorrow at eight." Noah grinned. "This is going to be interesting."
Neither Gabriel nor Elsa realized that someone inside the company would be far from happy about this new arrangement, that person would be Vanessa,
Vanessa Cole would soon receive the news that the stubborn delivery girl was about to become part of Gabriel's daily life.
She stared out of her office window as Gabriel's car pulled over.
Gabriel returned to Kingston Group and instructed the Human Resources Department to prepare a temporary staff pass for Elsa.
Shortly afterward, an official company notice was sent to all employees:
"Please be informed that Miss Elsa Williams will be joining Kingston Group tomorrow as a temporary staff member in the company cafeteria. Kindly extend your usual cooperation and support."
As soon as the announcement was posted on the company's internal notice board and shared with staff, Vanessa Cole read it.
Her face immediately darkened with anger. She clenched the paper tightly in her hand, unable to believe what she was seeing. "No... this can't be happening," she whispered to herself.
She had spent years hoping Gabriel would finally notice her. There was no way she was going to let an ordinary delivery girl become part of his daily life and possibly steal his heart.
"No... this is not happening." She had spent years waiting for Gabriel to notice her. She wasn't about to let a delivery girl ruin everything.
...
The next morning, Elsa woke before sunrise. Unlike every other workday, she wasn't putting on her delivery uniform. Today was different. She stood in front of her TV small wardrobe, wondering what to wear.
"It has to be simple," she muttered. She finally settled on a neatly ironed white blouse, black trousers, and comfortable black flats. She tied her hair into a low ponytail and looked at herself in the mirror. "You can do this," she whispered.
Downstairs, Lily was already waiting. "Wow!" Lily's eyes sparkled. "You look like a real office lady." Elsa laughed. "I'll only be there for a week."
"Still... Don't forget us when you become friends with the billionaire CEO." Elsa rolled her eyes. "You're impossible."
Patricia walked into the dining room and smirked. "So, you're going to work at Kingston Group."
"Temporarily," Elsa replied. Patricia folded her arms. "Just remember, opportunities like this don't come often. If you're smart, you'll know how to keep his attention."
Elsa's smile disappeared. "I'm going there to work, not to chase anyone." Without another word, she picked up her bag and left the house.
Kingston Group Headquarters stood proudly in the middle of the city, its glass walls reflecting the morning sun. Elsa stopped at the entrance for a moment.
The building looked even more magnificent than she remembered. She took a deep breath. "You belong here... at least for a week."
Inside, the receptionist smiled politely. "Good morning. Your name, please?"
"Elsa Williams." The receptionist checked her computer before nodding. "Mr. Kingston informed us about you. Please take the elevator to the fifteenth floor."
Elsa thanked her and stepped into the elevator. As the doors opened, Noah was already waiting with a cheerful smile. "Right on time."
"I didn't want to be late."
"I expected nothing less." He led her through the spacious office, where employees whispered as they passed. "Who's she?"
"Isn't that the delivery girl from the restaurant?"
"Why is she here?"
Elsa ignored the curious stares. Noah opened a door. "This is the company cafeteria." The kitchen buzzed with activity. Several chefs and attendants greeted Noah respectfully.
"This is Elsa," Noah announced. "She'll be helping us for the next week." Most of them welcomed her warmly. Only one woman didn't. A tall employee named Brenda folded her arms and looked Elsa up and down. "So she's a special recruit."
Elsa frowned. "I'm just here to work." Brenda forced a smile. "We'll see."
Meanwhile... On the top floor, Vanessa Cole stormed into Gabriel's office without knocking. Gabriel looked up from the documents on his desk. "Good morning, Vanessa."
"I heard you hired her."
"It's temporary."
"You brought a restaurant delivery girl into this company."
Gabriel calmly signed another document. "We needed someone."
"There are hundreds of qualified people."
"I know."
Vanessa stepped closer. "So why her?" Gabriel finally looked at her. "Because she's hardworking."
Vanessa clenched her fists. "You barely know her."
"I know enough." His calm response only made her angrier. Without another word, she turned and walked out, slamming the door behind her.
Outside the office, several employees exchanged nervous glances. No one dared speak.
Back in the cafeteria, Elsa quickly learned the routine. She helped package meals, arranged delivery trays, and made sure every order was correct.
The staff soon realized she was a fast learner. Even Brenda couldn't deny it. By noon, Noah walked in carrying a list. "Ready for your first office delivery?"
Elsa smiled. "Of course." Together, they delivered meals to different departments. Employees were surprised to see her confidently navigating the building.
"Thank you," one manager said with a smile. "You're welcome," Elsa replied politely. When they reached the executive floor, Noah handed her a neatly packed lunch.
"This one goes to Mr. Kingston." Elsa hesitated.
"No," Noah said with a grin. "You should." She sighed. "Fine."
She knocked gently on Gabriel's office door. "Come in." Gabriel looked up from his laptop as she entered. "I brought your lunch."
"Thank you."
She placed the tray on his desk. Before she could leave, Gabriel noticed a small burn mark on her hand. "What happened?"
Elsa glanced at it. "Oh... hot soup."
"You should be more careful." She smiled lightly. "I've had worse."
For a moment, silence filled the office. Then Gabriel said quietly, "You're different from most people I've met."
Elsa raised an eyebrow. "Is that a compliment?" A faint smile appeared on Gabriel's face. "You can decide." Elsa couldn't help smiling back.
Just then, the office door opened.
Vanessa froze. Her eyes moved from Gabriel...to Elsa...then to the lunch tray on the desk. Her expression darkened instantly. "So," she said coldly, "this is why you insisted on hiring her."
The smile on Elsa's face faded. Gabriel stood up slowly. "Vanessa, this isn't what you think."
But Vanessa wasn't listening. She turned on her heels and walked away, her anger growing with every step.
As the elevator doors closed behind her, she pulled out her phone.
"If Elsa Williams wants to stay in this company," she whispered with a bitter smile, "then she'll have to survive what's coming first."
