Selina’s POV,
“That was a freaking accident!” He growled, his anger spiking up.
Why the hell are you bringing that up again?” Anthony defended, turning his face away in guilt.
“You slapped and pushed me very hard Mr! I landed on the v-shaped table and lost our baby.” I wheezed, my chest pumping up and down in anger.
“Now you are coming up with a lame excuse for how my body looks. Babe!” I retorted with a raised brows, unable to phantom his excuses.
Fueled by anger, I ripped the envelope in my palm without opening it to see its contents. It was very glaring that it was a divorce letter, but I was not even ready to grant him one.
“Selina…. Selina!” He quickly stretched his hands, trying to stop me, but it was rather too late.
“We would remain married! I can’t live without you, babe! Can’t you see you are my life?” I sobbed as my eyes became dull.
“This is my reality, it doesn’t matter if you rip off the envelope or not, I just can’t continue.” He stated coldly, his words sending chills down my spine.
While he was ranting, I swiftly texted my best friend to come to my aid, since Anthony respected her so much, maybe she could help talk some sense into him.
After texting her, I turned to face Anthony again.
“This wasn’t what you promised my dad on his deathbed years ago. You are breaking your promise.” Tears streamed down my cheeks accompanied by a nauseous feeling.
“I’m willing to give you part of my fortune, Selina, just go and start up your life again in luxury. You honestly don’t fit in my class, everything you do kinda irks me.”
“Babe… please don’t put a price tag on my dad’s sacrifice. I beg you.” I folded my hands and bowed my head while I wept bitterly.
Where the hell do I begin? My life had been on hold because of this marriage and he even stopped me from completing college. But I’m not complaining, I enjoy taking good care of him, I can’t let this marriage end, I just can’t!
“A second chance! Let’s give us a second chance.”
I fell to my knees pleading, as I held tightly to his pants.
He forcefully pulled his legs away from my grip and I fell to the floor holding my stomach, trying to protect the little seed growing inside of me so affliction wouldn’t repeat the second time.
As he walked towards the door, I crept like a baby, following and begging him to listen, but it was very obvious he was fed up and needed a break.
As he swung the door open to leave, Ashley my best friend was standing at the door, I wasn’t expecting her to arrive so quickly. I guessed maybe she was hanging around the estate, but anyway, I was super glad to see her.
The look on her face was laced with shock and curiosity as she walked through the door. Thank God she arrived at the best time before Anthony left, at least there was someone who would help me resolve the issues.
“What is going on here?” She asked, curiosity evident in her gaze. She glanced around, her eyes ogling at the finely decorated interior for our anniversary.
I quickly got up from my embarrassed state, cleaned my tears, and adjusted my dress, my blonde hair looking scattered like I got out from a rollercoaster.
“Thank goodness you’re here Ash.” I quickly gave her a tight hug as I tried explaining the shocking news Anthony had bombarded me with earlier.
“Hmm…” she breathed as she momentarily pulled away from the hug, the look on her face and the way she avoided my gaze was quite suspicious like she knew he was going to leave me.
“Selina, Darling, you only live once you know? Anthony is a young man and you are also a young woman. You both deserve to be happy.”
She paused and narrowed her eyes. “Let him go, Selina. It would be so unfair to hold him back when he is unhappy.”
Fresh tears began to well up in my eyes again, and my throat immediately felt dry. “Couples do work on their relationship, right?” I sobbed, blowing off the mucus that was running out of my nostrils.
“ Help me talk some sense into him, you know very well he listens to you.” I pleaded, holding my best friend's hands.
But she stylishly withdrew her hands, her beautiful face gleamed with uncertainty. Ashley was a perfect lady with the best features and I always wished God had blessed me with her elegance and her kind of beauty.
Anthony had always made references to her whenever he wanted me to improve on anything. He respects and holds her in high esteem, afterall she is also of high status just like him.
“You can’t force love on a man, Selina. Stop being naive, baby girl. It’s downgrading.” Her calm voice broke through the tension.
I glanced at everyone with so much sadness in my heart. The love I have for Anthony has hindered my ability to think straight, especially now that I’m pregnant again.
Today's news was supposed to bring joy into our lives, how did it turn into chaos?
Seeing me in pain, she felt compassion and decided to at least help me out in any way she could, even though she was a feminist and didn’t believe in pacifying and pampering men.
“Anthony, we need to talk, kindly follow me to my car,” Ashley stated calmly, her words springing forth hope in my heart.
I was happy she was finally going to intercede on my behalf, coupled with the fact that Anthony listened and respected her so much.
As they stepped out of the mansion, my heart glistened with hope. I waited anxiously to hear positive news while I caressed my invisible baby bump, assuring him all would be well.
It was almost midnight and thirty minutes had passed since they went into her car, Anthony was quite stubborn and I knew it would take a whole village to make him realize his wrong.
The continuous buzz from Ashley’s phone she left on the table made me uncomfortable, it could be a business call who knows? I wouldn’t want her to lose on a business deal because of my marital problems.
I picked up her buzzing phone and stepped outside, walking barefooted, towards her mattified monster truck and innocently opened the door.
“Ashley!!!!”
My eyes widened as I gasped in shock at what my eyes caught, her buzzing phone in my hands fell to the ground and shattered.
