Her Awakening Pt 4 (A Startling Truth)

1005 Words
Glasses clinked, and the guests were all chitchatting when there was a commotion in the rear of the large room. Melody excused herself from the conversation with an associate and looked to the sliding door just in time to see Oriana sprinting out towards the Forrest that butted up to the back of their property. She yelled her daughter’s name, but she had already disappeared into the thick foliage. As she turned back towards the door, one of the various wards placed around the house went off. “Shit.” She breathed under her breath. She took a deep breath, straightened her dress, and sauntered back into the room full of anxious guests. “It seems the birthday girl has had a little too much excitement for one evening. Please continue to enjoy the festivities. I must excuse myself.” With a sharp turn, she walked from the room and headed towards her first floor office. Shutting the door behind her, she muttered the word, “Lumona.” At the sound of her voice, the lights in the room all lit, and a blazing fire roared to life in the hearth. “I would suggest you get your story straight before Alpha Philip arrives, if you wish to keep your Coven.” The throaty growl came from an armchair to the left of the fireplace. Melody was un phased by the intrusion to her space. With the grace of a large cat, she padded her way to the walk-in closet to change into something more suited for the change of events. “Did your master send you shake me down before he arrived, Reese?” She hissed from inside the changing room. “Just following orders and to make sure you don’t pull a vanishing act. Again.” Reese leered at her, the shadows dancing across his face. She sat behind the ancient desk and ran a hand over the carvings on its surface. They lit with a pale green light, showing her the whole of her territory and the location of each and every coven member. It also showed her the non-members, those that either had special permission to be on coven lands or those passing through. It also showed any unwelcome visitors, those shown a bright red and blinked so as to be seen as soon as the map was activated. Right now, it showed one mark in her office and one closing in on the manor. She smirked at Reese, “Your master has arrived.” The door blew open with unexpected force, smashing into the wall hard enough to knock the painting off the wall. “Hello, Philip.” Melody sad. “Welcome to my home.” “Welcome, my ass.” Alpha Philip snarled. His eyes usually calm grey eyes were seething pools of blackness twisted with red. His canines were still elongated, and his nails were razor claws. His aura sizzled with rage, warning anyone near that they were just a wrong step away from death. “Please, Philip, calm down. We don’t have long til she returns.” Melody’s soothing voice worked its magic, and slowly, his claws and teeth retracted, and his breathing slowed. With a huff, he sat in the chair opposite Reese. He was quiet for a long time, staring into the flames. Reese meanwhile glared at Melody, ready to pounce if ordered to do so. Melody waved her hand to close the map on her desk and moved to the loveseat across from the two males, the two werewolves. “Philip, I…” She trailed off, leaving her thoughts hanging in the air. How could she explain? How was she ever going to tell Oriana the truth? Philip spit out his frustrations “You knew! How long and why was I never informed! She should have been raised as part of the Winter Moon Cla. Shee has our blood Melody!” His angry fist pounded on the table. “Philip, I understand your anger and frustrations..” Melody replied. “ I don’t believe you do.” Philip growled. “A hybrid of her breeding is a blessing to both our families.” “A blessing, maybe, more of a liability if you ask me. If the other clans hear of thi, there will be war! They will come after he, and then we will all be damned.” Reese inserted. “Calm down, Reese.” Philip cautioned. “None will hear of know of this other than the three of us in this room. And Oriana, of course.” “Of course.” Said her mother stiffly. “And just what do you propose, Philip. She obviously can’t stay in the Coven, although she has quickened into her power it is not witchcraft she possesses.” Reese sat listening to them continue to bicker when an enticing aroma wafted towards him. It was like warm summer sun on coconut scented skin, with a hint of something sweet and smokey. He stood and made his way to the door, the smell getting stronger the closer he got. Quite as a shadow, he stepped to the threshold and immediately knew who and what was the cause of such an intoxicating aroma. She sat by the door, her back leaning against the wall. She was holding a plate with a few smears of icing and crumbs on it, the remains of her birthday cake. Her birthday. It was a fact that they had all forgotten in the chaos that had become today. He could see her hair shining in the light coming from the room. He wondered if it was as soft as it looked. He was struck by the urge to reach down and touch, a feeling of need so strong he could barely hold himself together. He knew what it all meant, the scent of her, the sudden draw to touch her and be near her. His wolf was crying out the truth, but he couldn’t believe it. Had he finally found her? His Luna?
