Talli’s POV It’s getting late and Mira and the prince still haven’t shown their faces. I’ve already gone around to say my good byes to my family and brought my luggage down to the cars waiting out front. I saw the King and Queen talking with Alpha Troy in the front hall. Looks like everyone is ready to go. I shoot Mira a text, telling her to get her butt downstairs before we leave without her. It’s about 10 minutes before I get a text back saying she’s in the shower but the Prince was heading down with her bags. Rolen comes walking down and Mitch goes to help him. “sooo….the old staggered entrance technique. Very subtle.” I say. “I don’t know what your talking about Talli, you must have me confused with the that fuckboy alpha jr upstairs, no doubt sleeping one off.” The prince’s face is a dead giveaway but the last thing I want is to embarrass Mira in front of the future in-laws. “Rolen dear, you look exhausted. Did you sleep at all?” the Queen chides. “I don’t remember getting much sleep after I found you dear. Let the boy be.” The King laughs. He gives his wife a kiss and a wink. “Where is that mate of yours anyway? We really should be going. It’s a long drive.” “I’m here, I’m here….”Mira is half running half, falling down the stairs. she’s completely out of breath, wet hair in a messy bun and a bag of toiletries in one hand, shoes in the other. “sorry I missed my alarm and …it’s just been a mess this morning. I’m sorry.” “no worries, love, cars are all packed and ready to go.” Rolen gives her a cute little side hug and a kiss on the head. “aww aren’t you a sweet couple,” I poke. Hope they aren’t going to be doing that the whole way there, my wolf mopes. Could be worse at least they aren’t dry humping in the hallways. An image of last fall when one of our younger warriors found his mate comes to mind. They were caught everywhere. They Alpha finally had to have a talk about discretion with them but not before the whole packhouse knew about it. “So how are we going to do this anyway? You weren’t expecting to take two extra people home with you when you arrived. Mira and I don’t have our own cars either, we usually just borrow her mom’s.” I’m not sure I wanna ride with the love birds but I don’t think I’m ready to be in a car with the king and queen yet either. Idk where who’s in the car but you better call shot gun now! I’m not letting that pretty boy Mitch steal our spot. My wolf is so demanding. “We thought we’d let the young people ride together on the way back.” The queen says. “Alpha Troy has been kind enough to lend us another vehicle so we don’t have to be so crowded.” “Shotgun!” Mitch and I yell over each other. “oh no I called it first” “No way” “Enough” Rolen commands. “Mitch you drive, you know the way and can link the other drivers as needed. Talli take shotgun, get the numbers for the security detail in your phone before we go so you can coordinate with them as needed. Mira and I will ride in the back. Everyone good with that?” Mitch and I both bow our heads, showing our necks in submission. I rush off to get the numbers before we head outside. Waiting for us at the bottom of the stairs is a small convoy of black suvs each one with the latest security and technology features available. The King and Queen head to the first car with a handful of guards. The rest of the security team file into Alpha Troy’s car leaving us in the middle. Mitch opens the door for Mira and Rolen before walking around to the driver’s seat. Guess he's still sore about loosing shotgun. I hop in and message the lead car we are ready. The cars pull away from the packhouse and I can’t help but look back one last time. I’ve never really been away from home before. Sure Mira and I will go to the human town some times but we always sleep here. I don’t know when I’ll be back next. Mira catches my eye and I know she is having the same thoughts as I am. At least we are going together. Mira’s POV Our little caravan has been on the road for about 20 minutes when there is an ominous growl from my stomach. I never did get to eat this morning and its almost lunch time now. A second grumble fills the back seat and this time everyone hears it. “How long till we reach the capital?” I groan. “About 3 hours.” Mitch laughs. “Guess you should have woke up on time huh?” says Talli. “It’s ok love, we planned to stop for lunch anyway. Talli, message the front car and ask them to find us a restaurant sooner than planned.” Your human is being very thoughtful, my wolf says. I know right. We really lucked out in the mate department. Rolen has his arm around my shoulders so I’m pressed against his side when I feel another rumble. Oh yeah. I forgot I wasn’t the only one who missed breakfast. I poke Mitch I the shoulder and tell him to speed up. About 20 minutes later we roll into a quaint little roadside bistro. It has a very down home feel and the smells coming out of the open windows suggest a lot of meat and potato type dishes, perfect for a pack of hungry wolves on a road trip. I’m a little nervous about the size of our party but I didn’t think that the security team would have called ahead for a reservation. The wait staff have two large tables set up for us in a private room at the back of the diner. I can’t decide between the ham dinner with mashed potatoes and broccoli or the hot turkey sandwich and fries. I feel a little rushed, half the table has ordered already and I have no idea which one I want. When the waitress turn to me I feel Rolen put his arm around me. “She’ll have the ham dinner and I’ll have the hot turkey sandwich please gravy on the side.” He tells her “Wanna share?” he whispers. “You read my mind,” I joke. Lunch was delicious. Talli and I are done pretty quickly, so we decide to head to the gas station across the street for some provisions. I mean it is a road trip after all. We are browsing the aisles under the bored gaze of the shop keep when I notice a large man walking down the aisle behind us. I nudge Talli and pull her into the next aisle. Just when I start to think I was being paranoid I see our shadow round the next corner. I turn again and see him pick up speed to keep us in sight. Talli has finally caught on to the fact that we are being followed and decides to confront the creep. “Can we help you with something?” She gets right in his face and just glares at him. “No ma’am” His voice is so deep it rattles my bones. “uh then why are you following us?” She isn’t backing down. “It’s my job. Ma’am. Prince Rolen assigned me to your security detail for the remainder of the trip.” Security…detail…ohh shhh! My bad. “Oh…Well why didn’t you announce yourself? You can’t just creep around all menacing like. For all we knew you were here to kidnap a couple of hotties for…I don’t even wanna think about what for…just don’t be so damn weird got it?” Talli is a master of deflection. I once saw her get a guy at the club to apologise to her for putting his foot in the way of her tire. He even offered to pay for her drinks that night. Not as a come on either, he was there with his girlfriend and everything. I see our guard’s eyes glaze over for a minute and I know he’s getting a mind link from someone. “You should make your purchases and return to the cars. We’ll be leaving in a few minutes.” He says. We grab a couple bags of chips, gummies and a few candy bars before heading to the register. “Oh drinks,” Talli calls, bouncing back down the aisle for a handful of gatorades. We go to pay but our guard beats us to it, handing the man behind the counter a credit card and grabbing our bags. We both just stare at him for a minute. “Prince Rolen said to cover your bill. It’s his card” He says before heading for the door with our bag of goodies. “I’m liking this Prince more and more” Talli whispers as she follows the guard back to our car. Me too, my wolf purrs. In fact I think we should go enjoy him a little more. We are not alone in the car, I remind her. I don’t mind an audience if they don’t, She jokes. I swear no wolf is as pervy as mine. Rolen’s POV My little mate is curled up with her head on my shoulder when we pull in to the royal pack lands. Mitch slows the car as we head down main street. Talli has her bare feet up on the dash board and is playing a matching game on her phone. As we go around a curve the palace comes into view and she drops her phone her feet and her jaw in that order. “Holy crap. You live there?” she says, “it looks like lifestyles of the rich and famous.” “You live here to now,” Mitch tells her. When she doesn’t seem to understand he adds, “The royal guards have their own barracks and training grounds on the palace property. They even have their own armory.” “sweet I can’t wait to get my hands on some bad ass new blades” Talli is definitely one scary she-wolf, Mitch links me. Tell me about it! Glad my mate is a bit tamer. You sure about that. We both saw what she could do on the training field. Better find yourself a good florist now. Happy wife happy life. I can hear Mitch chuckling from the front seat. He’s got a point. I wonder if marigold’s is still in business. I wake Mira up gently. I don’t want her to miss seeing her new home. Within seconds she has her window down and is all but hanging out it. Both girls have their heads on a constant swivel taking in every store front and crowded side street café. There excitement is infectious and before long I find myself looking out the windows as well. I’ve seen it all before of course but it’s different somehow. I can tell they like it already but I can’t wait to show them around myself. Mitch pulls up to the gates behind the lead car. The guards at the gate bow to my parents and usher us in. the drive up to the front entrance is a good three minutes of lawn and little gardens. Mom loves walking among the trees and flowers so this has been her pet project for the last fifteen years. Some of the trees are older than the palace itself though. I see Mira’s eyes light up when she sees a small pond off in the distance. We finally pull up to the front doors and a group of omegas rush out to unload the cars and put them away. I can see dad talking with Nicholas, the head of household, at the top of the stairs. He’s already called ahead to arrange rooms for Mira and Talli, and someone to return the alpha’s car. Nicholas gestures to an omega and they rush inside. A few moments later they are back with two others. I walk Mira up to the door and a young she-wolf comes forward to show Mira to her room. Mom made sure it was on my private floor. I’d rather have her room with me right away but mom insists we have to at least pretend to adhere to the old traditions, and that means Mira will have her own room till after the official announcement and royal wedding. At least she isn’t making me wait the six months for “courtship.” We discussed getting married at the next full moon so we have about a month to plan things. These rooms haven’t been used in years but the housekeepers are far to diligent to let any room go untended for long. I think they have a rotating schedule for which empty rooms get cleaned on which days or something. This one smells like it was just done this morning. No doubt they were warned ahead of time. The room is huge compared to the one she had but smaller than the one we will share. A tall beech wood bed takes up the center of one wall made up with a pale pink floral print. On the far side of the room is a couch and two arm chairs set to face each other over an oval coffee table of matching wood. Beyond the seating area is a small balcony. The railing is covered in climbing ivy from the private garden below. On the wall opposite the bed are two doors. One leads to a large walk in closet. Two of the omegas bring Mira’s bags in and start hanging her things up for her. The other leads Mira through all the amenities of the room. The big screen tv complete with streaming services, a fully stocked bathroom with a walk in shower and a jacuzzi tub, and finally a mini fridge for midnight snacks. “Is this a palace or a hotel?” Mira laughs. “I’m not sure,” I whisper, “My room doesn’t have a mini fridge.” “Really?” she turns to give me a questioning look “No, but then it does have an office with a full bar so I guess that makes up for it?” I joke. “ha, you don’t strike me as the type to drink yourself into a stuper.” “true but Mitch and I like to unwind now and then and it’s so easier to relax at home than to go out and have to take a whole security team with us.” I remind her. “So do you like it?” “Absolutely, I’m almost sad it’s only temporary,” she says turning to look out over the garden. “Well if you like we can always turn it into an office for you after the wedding. That way you have your own space away from us boys and our wild parties next door.” I put my hands on her hips and pull her against me, breathing in the smell of her shampoo. “Wild Parties? Ha you want wild you should invite Talli. That girl is crazy. She’d have you both pass out drunk and still expect you to be up at 5 for training” “uh, on second thought I think my drinking days are done. How bout we go head downstairs for a nice cup of tea instead?” Tea? What am I 90? Fortunately my mate takes pity on me, leading me out into the hall. We head down to the kitchen and one of the cooks brings us two cups of green tea with honey and a plate of sugar cookies. Better than whiskey, my wolf swishes his tail at me.
