I FELT ALIENATED when I faced my first challenge, the highschool was enormous, students loitering like ants in front of the double glass doors. The sound of the fountain positioned in the middle irritated my senses.
Before I inhaled the spring's petal laced air, I spotted the golden haired guy, the one who almost railed me to death. Yesterday was my first day in Brooklyn and it was packed with action to the point where I told dad all about over the phone when we finished dinner, leaving the encounter with the daring Lucien and his dad.
My mind flashed back to how I was on top of him, his arms caged me and I felt the warmth it provided. He quickly hid a wince, so I didn't have to worry, but I caught the tilt of his head, his obsidian pupils memorized every detail on my face, his jaw had a sharp cut to it and he had light freckles that danced on his cheeks.
Stop fangirling, we need to be realistic. I cut myself short and I regained my focus, then I walked up the stairs and into my first class.
But since I was horizontally challenged and I needed a locator to find my English Literature classroom, I was pushed around by a herd of students, rushing when the bell rang for the beginning of the day. I listened to people as they swore at each other, paper planes flied on top of me and I wanted to scream.
An arm clutched me out of the swamp I was in, only to meet the biggest bambi eyes, she was on a whole other level of beauty.
"Hey, I'm Savannah, Sav for short." She smiled cheekily at me as she held her hand out, I shook her hand, "welcome to Brooklyn High."
"Thanks, I'm not really used to crowded places," that was true, mom was right when she mentioned that this was different. It was an entirely new world for me, hopefully I could get used to it since I was going to spend the rest of my life here. "I'm Caitlyn."
"I can't relate, you'll know why." She chuckled, "what do you have classes?"
I gave her my schedule and she grinned at me, before she handed it back, "come with me, we have first and third class together."
The backpack mom made me use had my camera inside and I was aching to get it out and take some snapshots to share later with my other family in Montclair.
I hated being the center of attention here, that was what exactly happened. They all had googly eyes at me when Savannah opened the door for me to get inside, it made my stomach queasy and my sweaty hands were in the pockets of my maroon hoodie.
"Cute bracelets, Sav!"
"Loving the color of your dress."
"Sav, my mom is a big fan of your brother's band."
I ought to know that Savannah was a social butterfly, she replied to all of them elegantly, so why would she want anything to do with me?
She sat next to me before the teacher came in with a knitted skirt and a chipped sweater, she had grey hairs and big glasses. I was already advanced in this class when I turned in my papers online yesterday.
I witnessed the way the guys looked at Savannah like they wanted to ravish her right here on the table, they had predatory eyes, but the popular girl only winked at them.
"For anyone new here, my name is Mrs. Poppins," she looked at me stoically, "our class today will be about Romeo and Juliet, you need to listen carefully to the story because you will have an assignment due after tomorrow." Two girls groaned at the back of the class and the guys cursed under their breaths.
I slid on my chair as I doodled on the table with my pencil, two fishes with bubbles around them. Ariel had always been my favorite fictional character, so I drew her between them.
Until a door banged open and I shrieked in response before I covered my mouth, nobody noticed because they all gasped at the intruder.
Oh god, it was Lucien.
"We thought we'd never see you, Lucien Sanders," Mrs. Poppins spoke.
"You would miss me too much and I can't have that, Pops."
The class laughed in response and she shouted, "quiet or you will all have detention." She sighed, touching her forehead with her fingers, "Lucien, take a seat and let me finish my class in peace."
"Aye, aye, ma'am."
The class quickly died down and they watched the tension between Lucien and the English teacher.
He was in a leather jacket that accentuated his muscles and a dark denim with a darker shirt under the jacket, his rich brown hair was windswept and he had long eyelashes with thick eyebrows.
"This is my bestfriend, he's a class A womanizer. He had two girls on one bed," Sav gossiped about him, "they call him the racer knight, I should show you one of his races."
"Cool." I lamely commented before I dipped my head down, hoping that he wouldn't pass by me.
"Yeah, bro, where have you been?" A guy on the left called out.
"Been racing lately," He replied casually.
"Can't wait to see you tonight, man." The other guys agreed with a cheer before the teacher shushed them again.
"Lucien, over here. I saved you a seat," The well known girl beside me just had to usher him to the seat next to us.
"My girl, S. How's it going with the cheer team?" He wasn't aware of me because Sav seemed to have healthy thick hair that covered me.
She embraced him as he pecked her cheek, "it's been great, you'll come see me perform in the afternoon, right?"
"Wouldn't miss it for the world, my Sav." She nudged him and they both did a short handshake.
She leaned back on the chair and that was when his eyes clashed with mine. I forgot how to breathe the moment he instantly recognized me, a whirlwind of curiosity and intensity were in his eyes. He had the look that could choke a person metaphorically.
"Oh, you two know each other?" She raised a brow between us.
"Yes, real good." He smirked at me.
