Dinner with Julie

139 Words

Julie was still looking at me, but I sensed that she had many thoughts running through her head. She was digesting my tale of romance, and trying to figure Giorgio out from a distance of time and space, trying to do something that was difficult for me even when I sat across the table from him. “That wasn"t your last night in Rome, was it?” “No, honey. I was staying for three more days.” “Did you talk more about that?” “Yes, and no. We talked more about serious topics, but we still enjoyed the fun times and lights and liveliness of Rome together.” “What serious topics?” I paused a beat too long. “What serious topics, mom?” “Whether – no when – we should get married.”
