Serena is young enough to want to play in the waves but old enough to understand the almost unnatural beauty of this place. She seems especially impressed with all the colors that make up the background of this world. The yellow lemons, the brilliant green shrubbery and potted plants, the deep blue of the sea and the brilliant blue of the sky. “It"s like a painting, Daddy,” she said this morning. We spent our afternoon on the beach, most of it just lying in the sun and soaking up the rays. Languishing on the shoe may have been a bit too lazy for her, so she lured me back into the water. Kat held firm, her fixed smile communicating that, while she liked the water, splashing around in the Mediterranean was not worth messing up her hair. So Serena and I dove in.
