Chapter 5: Visitors
Ed’s left leg bounced with excitement as he turned off the highway onto the country road leading to the farm. He glanced at his watch. Three-fifteen wasn’t too bad. About what he’d expected. As he pulled onto their gravel drive, the fluttering in his stomach intensified, and his fingers alternately stretched and tightened around the steering wheel.
He parked the truck and trailer alongside the house and turned off the ignition. The screen door slammed shut and there stood Joe, a huge smile splitting his face as he trotted down the front porch steps to greet him. Ed was out of the truck in a flash, and they were in each other’s arms kissing like there was no tomorrow even before they’d had a chance to say “hello.”
