Chapter 40 At ten o’clock on Monday evening, Brody sits on his bed with his knees up to his chest, a sketchpad open and leaning on his thighs. There’s a photograph clipped to the top of the pad—someone’s pet Shih-Tzu, tongue hanging out. The dog appears to be grinning broadly because of that goofy tongue. The owner’s name and address is written on the back of the photo; it was one of the many customers who stopped by his booth over the weekend and wanted to commission a sketch of their own. This lady must’ve lived nearby because, after Brody quoted her a price, she came back with the photo and a check for half the amount of the drawing.
