I point to my sister and watch as dad turns to find her, as his eyes catch sight of them he nearly falls off the chair in shock, he turns to me
“You could have bloody told me”
“I was going to but then you tried to separate me and des, now you can deal with them as I sit on his knee”
Hope signs for me, giddy as she pushes us back to Desmond who looks amused as he watches dad flip out and run after my sister.
As he looks at me, I see the devious sparkle in his eye, exciting me even more as I skip back to him and I take a seat on his knee before I bury my head in the crook of his neck kissing the soft sensitive spot under his ear.
A slow long vibration rumbles through his body as his wolf starts to purr, his arms cradle me closer as my body relaxes against his.
And that’s what we do for the entire evening, Hope was fortunately right, everyone knew Desmond would never break the rules with me. He was honour bound and he would never jeopardise our relationship for a moment of weakness but nobody knew a thing about Hadley’s mate.
Nobody had any idea if he would follow the same rules so they were all busy trying to figure that out and because of that they left us well alone.
As the night drew to a close my heart started to hurt, the thought of being apart again hurt more than I could bare. Before I had a chance tears stream down my face as I cuddle into Desmond’s warm chest. My body hurt at the thought of saying goodbye.
His hand lifts my face and he frowns
“Are you ok?”
I shake my head
“No, I don’t want you to leave me”
He closes his eyes nodding his head then he leans down and rests his forehead against my own and he holds me like that for a moment before he pulls back.
“I know, it hurts me too. But your 17 next week, I can come back again then”
As he says it slow for me to understand I fall forward sobbing into his chest, he wraps his arms around me tighter, his body was stiff, I could feel his own anxiety.
He pulls back again
“Baby if this is too hard maybe I should stay away”
My chest constricts at his words, panic rises up within me as I shake my head
“No, no you can’t do that, you can’t leave me again, it’s too hard not seeing you”
I start to sign as fast as possible, he grabs my hands to stop me
“Shhhh it’s ok, it’s ok, I won’t, I promise I will be back next week”
I nod closing my eyes again, I felt trapped, trapped here while my life was out there. We were neighbours and I wasn’t even allowed on his property, I could see him every single day if I wanted but my parents wouldn’t allow it and Desmond followed every rule they laid out for us.
“This isn’t fair, why can everyone else be happy, why can they all have there mates but I can’t even see mine. It’s not fair desmond”
He grabs my face, I could see his own panic but he was so busy trying to sedate me he didn’t care about his own pain.
“I know, but iv been around a long long time heartly, I know that the rules they have in place are to protect you, iv seen it go wrong and iv seen it go right and the right way is always the one where both mates are mature enough to settle down. We need to wait until your at least 18 because it’s what’s best for you”
“But look at Hadley! She’s already kissing her mate and he looks older than you”
I snap, he chuckles turning to look at the man we now know is called Tate, then he looks back to me:
“He may look older, but he’s not, I promise you if I didn’t think the rules set in place were right I wouldn’t follow them. Just like tonight, you sat on my knee and were in my arms all night, the rule that says we can’t do that is stupid and I won’t follow it but the rest of them are, if your sister gets away with it it’s simply because they are both young, foolish and honestly it doesn’t look like she gives a crap about whatever punishment your parents will implement”
I shake my head
“Nothing as usual, she gets to be a b***h and she gets away with it”
He smiles down at me, pulling me back closer and he pecks my nose.
“I love you”
He tells me, I grin looking to his lips then back at his eyes, Hope pushes forward and together we say out loud
“We love you too”
His eyes shoot open in shock, water instantly pools at the edges
“You talked!”
I nod
“Yes”
I say again with hopes help, I had stopped talking altogether a few years ago but since Hope arrived she’s been helping me remember some words. But it felt like the curse didn’t just steal my hearing but it also stole the memory of some words. I could understand people when they talked to me but trying to copy them had become really rather difficult.
“I love your voice, say it again”
He tells me grinning, Hope giggles in my head pushing forward to help me
“We love you Desmond”
“We love you too”
He answers immediately, bending down to kiss the soft sensitive spot under my ear. It sends a shiver straight down my spine, filling me full of lust and love.
After that we say our tearful goodbye, desmond drops me off at my door before he slips away into the night.
As I turn and head to the kitchen I could feel the anger in the room, the vibrations of people shouting at each other before I even had a chance at seeing them.
I turn finding my parents, grandparents, Hadley and Tate all arguing over something. Ignoring them I grab a bottle of water from the fridge, my heart was already hurting, my good mood completely gone so I didn’t need fuel to add to the already raging fire inside me.
“See look at her”
Hadley scream as I try to walk by, grabbing my arm she yanks me into the room, I rip my arm out of her grasp
“What!”
I snap out loud, Hadley ignores me, pointing at me as she shouts at our parents
“You want me to be miserable like her all the time! He is my mate and I am his! I’ll leave and I won’t ever come back if you don’t let him stay”
I frown looking at my parents, they all looked exhausted
“And where the hell do you want him to sleep Hadley!”
This house was already full, I already had to share a bedroom with a raging b***h I didn’t need to add a random dude who couldn’t understand sign language too,
“You can stay in dexters old room”
Hope growls at her shaking our head
“I’m going to bed”
“Not in our room your not!”
Hadley shouts at me, stepping into my path, anger bubbles up inside me. I was hurting, I wanted nothing more than to lock myself into a room and never come out again.
“I need my charger and pjs b***h now f*****g let me past so i can go to bed, I don’t care where but if you don’t piss off and leave me alone you will f*****g care”
Hope snaps signing for me, she was beyond pissed and very overprotective. Hadley honestly looked a little taken back as I turn to my parents and grandparents as my chin starts to wobble. Mums face falls as she walks towards me
“I’m sorry this is hard baby”
I put my hand up and step back
“No actually you don’t know, you all knew who your mates were and they got to live in the same house, see each other everyday, what your doing to me is wrong on every level. Goodnight”
