SILAS’S POV
Watching the car leave with my mate in it felt like a fist in the gut. I continued staring until they were out of sight, and my phone buzzed. Grabbing it out of my pocket, I saw that it was Sev. I answered with a one-word hello.
“Hey, where are you?”
“I was seeing my mate off.”
Silence for a moment. “She’s a good mate, Silas.”
“It doesn’t matter. It’s not meant to be. She’s a human; I’m an Alpha. It won’t stand with Dad. And it puts her in danger.”
“You know it’s not as dangerous nowadays…there’s doctors.”
“I’m not risking it,” I snapped. “And who’s to say she would even accept that? She’s been human her entire life, and changing…it’s not a pretty process, and I can’t ask that of her.”
