Chapter 20
USUAL HABITS NOTWITHSTANDING, they slept until almost noon. In fact, they slept until Bobby and Chad knocked on their bedroom door and they heard Bobby say, “Are you guys awake?”
Tom awoke with a start and said, “Come on in, guys.”
As the door opened, Noah stirred and somewhat groggily said, “What’s happening?”
“We slept ’til noon,” Tom said. “That’s what’s happening.”
“Holy s**t! We never do that.”
“We just got back from church,” Bobby said.
“How did things go?” Tom said.
“Smooth as silk,” Bobby said. “Everyone asked how you guys were, and Chad and I told them what we knew. Ready to try the stairs?”
“Give me a minute to go to the bathroom first,” Tom said.
“I’ll go downstairs and start lunch,” Chad said. “You guys call me when Tom tries the stairs on those crutches.”
