On the way back to Moloka‘i, Thomas and Eva took turns showering off and changing into dry clothes in the Aggressor’s small bathroom. Axel made hot tea for them, and they ate a sustaining snack of bananas and granola bars smeared with peanut butter. Thomas found an otoscope in Mel’s medical kit, and verified that Eva’s right tympanic membrane was indeed ruptured. But other than cleaning it out and giving her a few ibuprofens, there was little else he could do. It would heal in time.
That was when Eva received a call from her mother. Romina had bad news: Soledad had fallen out of a tree and had broken her arm in three places. But Romina was confused by it, because Sol had fallen only three feet, and asked to speak to Thomas.
