CHAPTER 2

Walked me to the school gate. Bought me snacks during break. I was still the good girl—just no longer alone. But slowly, boundaries softened. He wanted more time. More privacy. More trust. I started staying back after school. I told my mother I had lessons. I learned how to lie without shaking. I started missing extra lessons to be with him. He took me out for swimming, sometimes to watch a movie, we even kissed once. My friends were happy for me, I finally belonged. Then SS2 came, and Adam left. His family relocated to Lagos, and with distance came silence. Calls reduced. Messages stopped. One day, he was just… gone. I told myself I was fine but I knew that I wasn't. My friends noticed and told me to move on but how could I, how could I move on from the person who showed me love, who taught me how to love, it was hard but I knew I had to, crying wouldn't solve anything. I tried to move on, I really did but I still missed him, that was how my friends took me to the club on a Friday, a place we weren't supposed to be at our age but we were there. That was where I met Chuks. Older. Confident. A bit rough around the edges. He bought us drinks. Somehow he knew Precious, I didn't know how but I didn't care. He looked at me like I was some precious treasure. “He’s hot" Gift whispered in my ears and giggled, truly he is. He told me I was beautiful, we got talking and he told me he had an apartment close to the bar and we agreed I had meet him there after school on Monday. We left the bar but I couldn't stop thinking about him. He was hot in a way that would make your stomach churn. He had pink lips, he was a true definition of Handsome. On Monday, after school, I didn't wait for extra lessons, I went to Chuks house, he welcomed me nicely and offered me a glass of juice after that we sat to watch a movie.
