Chapter Three

Ana Stretching on the bed, I noticed that I slept alone last night. This house is really a strange building. A knock startled me and I shrieked loudly. "Easy there" Alice laughed coming into the room. "God! you scared me" I frowned at her "Sorry darling. It's morning already or would I rather say it's noon already, I allowed you to rest due to your previous day's activities but huh! it's getting too much that's why I came in to check for myself if you're still alive" "Yes yes yes thank you" I grinned. "Sorry" she laughed " meet me downstairs for your breakfast and lunch" she turned to leave "What about......" "What about what?" she turned "Aleks" I said my face heating up for no particular reason. "Hmm" she smiled mischievously. "My goodness Alice! you know what? I take that back" I said running to the bathroom. "Yeah take it back" she teased after me. I was never prepared for what I saw downstairs, never ever. I thought it was just Aleks, Fabi, Alice and probably his guards but what I saw made me stop right in my tracks. A very old woman sat on a wheelchair which was being pushed by Alice and from all indications, the woman is blind. "Where's the sheihk's bride?" the woman asked smiling "Babushka , she would be out very soon- Oh there she is. Ana come over let me introduce you guys" I dragged my paralysed legs towards them and stopped in front of them. "Babushka, this is Ana, Aleks' wife and Ana this is Babushka as we often call her, Aleks' grandmother" so he has a family. "I know that information Alice. Come closer moye ditya so that your Babushka would feel your beauty" she opened her arms that confirmed her blindness. I got much more closer and squatted in front of her. "How are you doing" she inquired "I'm doing well. Good morning babushka" I tried my first Russian word. "I love that sound coming from your lips" she smiled. "This feels so out of place. This is supposed to be Aleks' work, I mean introducing you guys to each other and here am I filling in for him once again" Alice said. "And where's he?" asked Babushka "Out for business as usual" "I'm so glad to finally meet you. I heard that you're Alejandro Guttardo's daughter" "Yes but he's late" I said. "So I heard. How was the wedding. Sorry I didn't attend it" "It went well" I smiled "Babushka" that voice said entering into the kitchen. I literally tensed just at the sound of that familiar voice that became a nightmare to me. Thank God no one noticed my present predicament. But....... s**t! those blue orbs met mine for a second and- "Come here plokhoy rebenok" "No Babushka you won't knock my head" he frowned slightly "Of course I will. You behaved so badly yesterday" "Babushka, I came back very late yesterday and she was fast asleep when I entered the room" Oh my God did he just lie? "Hey" he turned to me. "Hi, good morning" I greeted "Aleks go easy on your wife you don't expect her to feel at home with this your attitude" Alice said looking at him. "My God I wasn't hard on anyone ok? I was just trying to be the gentleman that I am" "Moy lovely and beautiful babushka" Fabi said in a singsong manner. "My dearest and handsome Fabi" she sang back "Come here khoroshiy rebenok" she opened her arms to hug him. "Seriously? I'm the bad child here and Fabi is the good child here?" Aleks said The room totally felt hot to me. Being in Aleks' presence isn't doing me any good. The man always sets me off key. I never do my own bidding and I'm always tensed. This man who is supposed to be my husband for life always brings out the nervousness in me, that which I was trained to hide my entire life. I looked for a way to exit the room but found none. Just the normal "excuse me". I rushed my words before walking hurriedly out of the kitchen. Halfway gone I felt a pair of particular eyes bore holes into my back and I made the mistake of turning. Aleks was staring at my exiting self. "s**t" I muttered before collapsing to the ground, I looked for the source of my fall and I found out that I was already at the first step that leads to the floor above. "Careful" someone said helping me up. I tensed once again. "Thanks" I said hurriedly looking for a way to escape from him and this time around, though I felt the holes at my back I dated not look back. In my entire life I've never felt weary of anybody or anything like I do of Aleks, not even when my dad beats up my mom, not even when my dad turned me into his punch bag. Not even when my uncle took me in after the death of my dad and I was deprived the right to go to school, not even when my cousin made life miserable for me. Not even when I eavesdropped as as my uncle murdered his wife, not even when I was told that I was to be married to a complete and heartless stranger. Aleksi's tales were not good, the testimonies, the stories weren't with a good topic and knowing how heartless he is I won't try to be bold. "You know thinking wont solve any problem right? It would only stress you out .. "Alice said with a smile. It was night already and we were outside by the fireplace to get warm, Alice and Babushka had been talking since and I wasn't participating. "She's right my dear sometimes overthinking only worsen situation, we just have to let nature have it full rein over our life and our problems" "It actually isn't a problem" I lied. "Ana I might be blind but I'm not dumb and I noticed how you behave around Aleks trust me he's one of the sweetest person you would ever encounter" she said. I nearly scoffed out loud, sweetest? Like really? sweetest my foot I rolled my eyes thank God they can't see it. Wait are we talking about the same Aleks? no I doubt that because the Aleks I know is far from sweet. Sweet is never and has never been one of his characteristics in fact it is a taboo to have Aleks' name and sweet in the same sentence. "I know it's not easy" she finishes that was when I noticed that she had still been talking and I only got the end of it. "Yes ma" I agreed to what I don't even know. "And I'm Babushka not ma I feel like you insulted me" she said ....feigning anger. "I'm so sorry Babushka. I won't call you that again" "Thank you angel face" she smiled. Babushka is an angel and I found myself falling in love with her.
