Chapter 5: The Fateful Night

A stern voice, carrying a hint of seductive, gravelly warmth, echoed from inside: — Come in! Binh Minh took a deep breath and pushed the door open. The room at that moment looked quite messy. The bedsheets were wrinkled as if they had just been through a fierce struggle, and an expensive women's jacket was tossed carelessly right at the foot of the bed. Mindful of the customer's privacy, Binh Minh kept her gaze lowered to avoid looking around blindly. She gently placed the expensive bottle of wine on the table, stretched slightly to pick up the jacket, and folded it neatly into a corner. Looking at the disheveled bed, she turned around and spoke in a soft voice: — Sir, would you like me to change the bedsheets to a cleaner set? The man had been leaning back in his chair, quietly watching her every small movement since she stepped into the room. He had crossed paths with plenty of waitstaff in this playground of indulgence, but he had never seen anyone with such clear eyes, careful work ethics, and proper boundaries like this young girl. His attention was instantly captured. — No need. The sheets are still clean; just help me smooth them out. — Yes, sir. Binh Minh obediently nodded, moving nimbly to the edge of the bed to straighten the covers. Seeing the task neatly completed, she offered a faint smile, turned, and bowed: — Sir, I have finished. Please excuse me as I return to my duties. The man curved his lips into a meaningful smile, his cunning gaze appraising her slender figure from head to toe. Abruptly, he stood up and leisurely strode toward her. The overwhelming pressure of his ideal height and imposing aura caused Binh Minh to instinctively and panickedly step backward. Thud. Her heel caught the edge of the bed, and losing her balance, she fell backward onto the mattress. Before she could recover her wits, his towering shadow closed in, both hands slamming forcefully against the mattress on either side of her, trapping her entirely in the narrow space. — Ah... Sir... what are you doing?! — Binh Minh panicked, pressing both hands against his chest in a futile attempt to push him away. Seeing her fierce resistance alongside a face drained of color from terror, the underlying instinct of conquest in the man seemed to awaken. He tightly gripped her delicate, slender wrists, pinning them upward above her head, then leaned low, bringing his face right into the crook of her neck. A deep, husky voice full of provocation echoed right beside her ear: — How much do you make in a month working as a waitress in a place like this? Or... why don't you stay here and serve me tonight? I guarantee you'll have money if you want money, and whatever you desire. No sooner had he spoken than he skillfully used one hand to pull a gold-plated business card from his pocket, leisurely slipping it into her shirt pocket. — No! Have some self-respect... Let me go! Binh Minh burst into tears, struggling frantically. — What energy do you have to fight back, little one? Be a good girl... Dang Phong lowered his head, intending to playfully inhale and tease the young girl. Yet, the exact moment his nose brushed against the smooth skin of her collarbone, a pure, heartbreakingly sweet lily fragrance suddenly surged straight into his nostrils. The man froze, his entire body stiffening. His pupils widened, and he looked as though his very soul had been sucked clean. This scent... it was the haunting fragrance from his nightmares over the past seven years! Taking advantage of his dazed and unguarded state, Binh Minh mustered every ounce of strength she had, parting her lips to bite down fiercely on his shoulder. A bone-chilling wave of pain startled Dang Phong into releasing his grip. Quick as lightning, Binh Minh used all her might to shove him away, leaping up and sprinting desperately out of the room. He fell back onto the mattress, yet his face held no trace of anger. His hand instinctively reached up to touch the deep, bleeding bite mark left on his shoulder, then brought his fingertips to his nose to inhale the lingering trace of scent. The corners of his lips slowly curved into a quiet smile: — I never expected... that such a scent truly existed in this world... He stood up, walked over to the table, and picked up his phone to call the club manager. The other end immediately answered with a deferential, submissive tone: — Hello, President Tran! Do you have any instructions for me? — Waitress number 8, named Binh Minh. Give her a bonus tip; she served me very well. — Yes, yes, I'll keep that in mind. Thank you for looking out for her, President Tran! Dang Phong hung up, his gaze filled with lingering confusion as he stared toward the door before leisurely walking into the bathroom. Binh Minh covered her face and bolted straight into the restroom, locking the door firmly behind her before bursting into tears. From the moment she accepted a job in this complicated environment to earn money for her mother's medical treatment, she had told herself to prepare mentally for dealing with perverted customers. Yet, the bold molestation moments ago had still dealt a fatal blow to the young girl's psyche, plunging her into utter terror. Ring... ring... ring... The sudden ringing of her phone cut through her sobs. Seeing the display number of the General Hospital on the screen, her heart skipped a beat. It was past eleven at night... — H-hello? — Her voice trembled as she held the phone to her ear. — Is this the family of patient Tran Thi Hà? Patient Tran Thi Hà — your mother has entered an extremely critical condition! The tumor has shown signs of rupturing, causing fluid buildup around the heart, and we are rushing her into the emergency room right now. You need to get to the hospital immediately! — Doctor... please, save my mother! I'm coming right now... I'm coming right now! Binh Minh frantically hung up the phone. Without even stopping to ask the manager for permission, she clutched her handbag tightly and bolted outside like a soul in torment. Her motorbike sped recklessly through the freezing late-night mist, her tears streaming endlessly in the wind. She cried until her voice choked, continuously praying in despair: "Mom, please don't leave me... You are the only family I have left in this world..."
