The car took Bryce and Elise straight
to the airport. The drive there was a quiet
one, with both of them lost in their
thoughts. Elise did not speak because she
was tired and just wanted the day to be
over, while Bryce really did not know
what to say to her. In a way, he felt sorry
for her and could not imagine how she
must be feeling right now. It was clear
that she was the pushover of the family if
she let them prevail upon her to marry a
stranger in the space of some hours.
He could not say he had been exactly shocked
to see her walk down the aisle instead of
her sister as he had sort of expected the
stunt that the sister pulled this morning.
Bryce wondered what sort of hold his
uncle had on her parents to make her
consent to this, but he did not really care
as it was actually none of his business.
He would never understand what his dear uncle stood to benefit from his marriage
to any of his friend's daughters, but that
was his uncle's business, not his. All that
mattered to him now was that his uncle
upholds his own end of the bargain and
that the one year and six months, till he
could be free from this bondage, passed as quickly as possible.
"Um, where exactly are we going? He
heard Elise ask and turned to look at her.
She looked so tired and stressed out,
which was not a surprise considering the
situation in which she found herself.
"Were going to my house in New York. You'll
rest when we get there."He replied
shortly. At the airport, they got on a
private plane, and Elise took it all in with
awe, her tiredness and melancholy
receding to the background immediately.
She had never been on a private plane
before she was awed by the opulence
around her. Bryce and she were the
only ones on the plane, except for the
crew who served them drinks and any
other thing they wanted.
"Is this plane your own? Elise asked,
trying to make conversation. If she was
going to be stuck with this man for over a
year, it was better that she began to get to know him as soon as possible. "Bryce,
however, did not seem to share this
thought because he looked over at her
impatiently before answering.
'Yes." Was the monosyllabic reply. He
loosened his tie and popped the first two
buttons on his shirt. Elise could not help
but stare at the smattering of dark hair on his chest that trailed down his chest and
into the covered parts of his shirt. Then
she quickly looked away before he caught her starring.
"Wow. That must be nice." She said,
meaning it.
"I imagine so.
"Is this the only one you own?"
"What is this? The Spanish Inquisition?
You look tired. You should rest." Bryce
said, feeling irritated for some reason he
could not explain. Why couldn't she just
shut up? Elise looked away in
embarrassment and kept her mouth shut
for the rest of the flight.
It was only when they were driving to
Bryce's house in the car with which
one of his drivers came to pick them up
that it dawned on Elise just how hasty
this wedding was and how much she did
not know what she was doing.
She did not
even have a single change of panties, let
alone a change of clothes. All her clothes
were still in her apartment and she had
only come with a few of them that she
would need during the week of the
wedding when she had thought her sister
was the one getting married. Even those
few clothes were at her parent's house
now and it was only the gown she had
changed into after the wedding.
Was she supposed to spend her meager savings
a Bryce's house in the car with which
one of his drivers came to pick them up
that it dawned on Elise just how hasty
this wedding was and how much she did
not know what she was doing,
wondered how on earth she was supposed to make love to such a cold and difficult
seeng man. Deciding that there was no
better place or time than now to tell him
that she did not plan on having anything
to do with him as regards s*x, she opened
her mouth to speak.
"Look, I don't know what you and your
uncle are playing at, but I would like to
tell you that I do not have any intention of
sharing a bed with you. I demand that we
have separate rooms and that you never
Come into my room without my
permission." She said, her cheeks flaming
as she said it. For some reason, she felt
stupid and dumb for voicing out such a
thing, and the look on Bryce's face
was not helping one bit. He looked
amused and clearly thought she was
stupid.
"Don't worry about that. I have no
intention of sharing a bed with you. The
thought hadn't even crossed my mind,
and I'm surprised that it crossed yours.
We both know what this is, that it is just a
joke of a marriage, so you're free to do
exactly as you please, and I am free to do
exactly as I please also. However, we must
be discreet to avoid raising my uncle's
suspicions as this is supposed to be a
loving marriage." He said the loving' with
such derision that Elise recalled.
"Oh. Okay. That's good." Elise replied,
feeling a little better. If this was what the
marriage was supposed to be like, then
she would not have too many problems
with it although she would miss her
friends as starting a new We had not been in her plans at all
soon, they not to his house, Card
marveled at the sheet opulence and
grandness of it, The house look like
something out of a fairytale, here were
manicured, well taken care of grass green
lawns and trimmed trees everywhere
Since it was summer, the flowers were in
bloom and gave the place Eden's,
natural look, Elise could just imagine
spending time in this sort of environment
in the evenings, just relaxing. Maybe it
would not be so bad being a billionaires pretend wife, after all in house this big.
She would almost never run into
Bryce, which was exactly as she
preferred it. He was too proud for her
liking and spoke to her derisively, plus it
was obvious that they had practically
nothing in common.
A butler met them at the door to welcome
them. Elise greeted the polite older man
in surprise. She did not know anyone who had a butler. The man was dressed the
part too and looked so formal that Elise
suppressed an urge to courtesy. Bryce
nodded coolly at the man and moved into
the house with Elise following him
closely.
