Elise woke up by six the next morning
feeling very refreshed. It seemed that the
events of the day before had not even
happened at all, but there was the
diamonds crusted ring on her hand and
the fact that she woke up in this insanely
huge bedroom to remind her that it all
happened and that she was now Mrs.
Bryce Anderson. Stretching fully, she got
up and went to take her bath, before
changing into presentable house clothes
and going downstairs to get breakfast. It
felt weird, but not necessarily unpleasant
having someone else prepare food for her.
Usually, she just grabbed something to eat
to and from her way back from work, as
she could not cook to save her lite, but
now, there was someone to make meals
for her immediately she indicated her
desire to eat.
This time around, she ate Freely
compared to the previous night when she
lacked appetite. She was on her third
piece of toast when Bryce walked into
the dining room all dressed in a suit. At
first, he looked surprised to see her sitting
there, and then he looked resigned. It was
obvious that he was not used to having a
strange female in his house. Elise could
relate, as she felt the same way about
being in a strange man's house in the first place.
good morning." He muttered, avoiding her
gaze and sitting down opposite her to wait
for the maid to bring his food.
"Good morning. Did you forget that I was
here? Elise replied and asked. This guy
was a really handsome fellow. If only he
Smiled more often and did not have this
terrible stuck up attitude, he would have
been a really nice guy. Also, he smelled so
good that she almost caught herself
leaning towards him and inhaling the air
to sniff in more of his scent.
"I beg your pardon?"
"Well, you looked surprised to see me, so l wondered if you forgot that I was here. I
like the way you smell."
Thanks. I didn't forget. One does not
forget a thing like that. I just didn't expect
to find you down here."
"Oh. Am I expected to eat in my room
then?"
"Of course not. The last thing my uncle
needs to hear is that I'm maltreating you.
It would not bode down well for me."
"Why is that? I thought that he did not
like my family. I would have sworn this
marriage was specially designed to make
my life a living hell."
"You know what? My first impression of
you was that you're shy and I figured that
that was for the better. At least, you would
leave me be. However, it seems that I was wrong. You have refused to keep shut since we got married. You even talk with your mouth full, which I find very
disgusting, by the way.
At this, Elise looked down and
concentrated on her food. This mam was a very mean person, and she was beginning
to really loathe him. So he and his uncle
just uprooted her from her life and
comfort zone and they expected her to sit
in a strange house in a Big City.
She knew nobody, The whole thing reeked To
her not-so-great surprise, tears sprang to her eyes. She had always been a crier
right from the onset and cried at every
little thing, a trait which she hated with
so much passion. She felt so sorry for
herself and so alone in this large house
that did not feel like a home. Since she
had no wish to let this bastard see her cry,she quickly blinked back the tears with her head down but was aghast when a
single drop plopped down into her cup of
tea.
Luckily enough, it was at this moment
that the maid brought Bryce's food to
the table, so he was distracted by the
woman who was serving him. Elise, who
had lost interest in her food, got up and
left the table in a huff. The last thing she
needed was to let Bryce see her cry.
He would no doubt have something
infuriating to say about it. Besides, she
refused to give him satisfaction of
knowing that he got under her skin. Well,
damn him to hell and back. Who did he
think he was anyway?
Once she got to her room, she wiped
angrily at the tears on her face and then
went to wash up her face. If Bryce and
a his uncle thought that she would just sit
here and play good housewife, they had
another thing coming. Besides, she
needed to get some clothes and other
personal stuff. All the clothes in the closet
were too glamorous for her liking. She
had no wish to look like a stickup rich
bitch. She did not have much money in
her savings, but at least she had some.
She was still in the bathroom when her
phone began to ring and so she came out
to find that it was her father calling. Elise
was tempted to ignore the call, after all, it
was his fault that she found herself in the
mess in which she found herself, but she
was feeling lonely and needed to hear a familiar voice.
Hello?"she said into a phone.
"Elise. How are you doing? How is your
new environment? I hope you're fine."
"I'm fine, dad. She sniffed.
"You don't sound fine, dear. You sound
like you' re crying. What is the matter?"
Her father asked. She could hear real fear
and hatred for himself in his voice, so she
hastened to reassure him that she was
fine. Sure, it was his fault that she was
here, but it wasn't so bad if you thought
about it. All she had to do was to steer
clear of Bryce who managed to make
her feel like crap each time she talked to
him and she would be fine me"No, no. I'm fine. I just feel very lonely. But
I'll adjust in no time. You were right.
They' re treating me well. Mr. Ralph had
the maid load my closet with really
expensive clothes, although I don't think
Ill be comfortable wearing them. They're
not my style at all."
"Oh, thank God. I knew Ralph would not
be mean to you. He was very fond of you
when you were still a baby."
"Doesn't seem like he is still fond of me
now, but at least he is not as scary as he
first seemed."
"Thank God for that. Have you heard from
your sister yet?" Her father asked,
sounding relieved. Elise could hear him
pacing about the room and wondered
where her mother was.
"No, I haven't heard from her. I've been
trying her numbers but none has
connected yet. Hopefully, she'll come
back, or at least let us know where she is
once she finds that everything is over. By
the way, I've been so scared to ask, but
have they released James yet?"
"Not yet, but at least they are no longer
torturing him, and they are even treating
him. Ralph has started the process of
paying them oft. It will take some time to
finish it off, but they are no longer
torturing him and will release him
Sometime this week."
Thank God for that at least. Poor James
"I really want to thank you for doing this
for me, Elise. It is not the way I ever
thought I would give you out in marriage
at all."
"It's okay, dad. I have to go now. Greet
mom for me.
"I will, dear. She went out for some
shopping. He informed her. Elise could
just picture him shaking his head. She
was also shaking her head in surprise and
resignation. Her mother was such a weird
human being. To think that after
everything that had happened yesterday,
The morning after
her first activity for today would be to go
shopping was strange, to say the least.
Elisr could bet her bottom dollar that it
was Mr. Ralph's or Bryce's money she
was using to shop.
"Wow! She doesn't waste time, does she?
I'm sure she would have gladly married
Bryce herself if it was possible. In fact,
I'm sure she sees this horrible
circumstance as a great blessing."
"Elise.." Donald began, but there was a
knock on the door.
"I have to go, dad. Someone s knocking on
my door."
Alright. I love you, Elise and thanks
once again. I would give anything for you
not to be going through what you re going
through right now.
I know, dad. I love you too. Bye. She told
him and went to open the door to see
Elise standing there.
