CHAPTER 2

~ETHAN’S POV~

“Slow down” I noticed Emily with a suitcase as I drove along the street with my driver.

“Find out what she's up to”

“Yes, boss,” he said.

A few minutes later

“Her rent is due, so she packed out"

“Buy the house and rent it to her for free"

“Yes, boss.”

~EMILY’S POV~

I heard bangs on the door as I was about to put Liam to sleep.

“Coming”, I hurried towards the door.

It was the caretaker. Why was he here at this time?

“Pack your things and leave,” he said.

“I thought we agreed on next week”, I looked confused.

Just this morning I told him I'll pay up next week. Why did he suddenly want to send me out?

“Someone else wants to move in”

“But…”

“Pack your things, or I'll throw them out”

“Alright.”

I packed my stuff with Liam’s and moved out with nowhere to spend the night.

I was a few minutes away from the house when I received a call from someone saying the new landlord gave us free rent.

“Liam, the new landlord, asked us to move back in,” I said, touching his cheek slightly.

“We got our house back” he jumped up happily.

We hurried back to the house.

“What if we are sent out again?” Liam asked as soon as we got home.

“That won't happen. The new landlord gave us….”

I heard a knock on the door.

“This is your new landlord. I'm here to sign the agreement with you.”

“Ethan”

I was shocked to see him there. He's here to humiliate me again.

Liam

He has a new love; I can't let him take Liam away.

I closed the door immediately and hid Liam in the room, and looked around the living room to make sure there was no suspicion.

“Come in”, I opened the door.

He looked around.

“What took you so long?”

“Are you hiding a man here?” he grabbed my hand tightly.

“My life has nothing to do with you”

“Really" he said, pushing me against the wall.

A sound came from the direction of the room. He turned, looking in the direction of the room.

I can't let him go there. He walked towards the room, and I ran to block his way.

" Yes, I have a new lover”

“Since you have a girlfriend, why can't I" I said, looking away.

“Girlfriend, you mean Hailey"

“She is my girlfriend" He clenched his fist.

"I want to see the type of person he is” he tried to open the door.

“You came here looking for me; you have nothing to do with him.”

He held my waist and kissed me.

“You look so cheap and dirty”

I felt a hard knot in my chest. I tried hard to fight the tears back, but I couldn't.

“Let's sign the agreement. If you have something else to do, you can leave”, I said.

He walked away without looking back.

I fell to the ground and cried my eyes out. I know he really hates me now. Once Liam's surgery is done, I'll leave for good.

I opened the room door and met Liam lying lifeless on the ground.

“Liam, please wake up, Liam”

“Don't scare me”

I carried him and hurried to the hospital.

I was lucky to see a cab immediately after I got outside

"The city hospital, please” I got into the car holding Liam to my chest.

I got to the hospital, and he was attended to immediately.

"He'll be fine,” Rae said.

Rae has been Liam's doctor since birth and is also a close friend.

“Have you managed to gather money for the surgery?" She asked.

I sighed, looking down.

"I'm still raising the money.” I'll gather enough soon.”

~ETHAN’S POV~

I went to the hospital in the morning to pick Hailey up after her check-up. I saw Emily coming out of one of the wards.

“Why are you here? Are you sick”

She doesn't look sick.

“It’s none of your business. Excuse me.”

I stopped her as she was about to go.

" How is it none of my business?” he held her arm.

“The suffering I endured, I'll make sure I return it to you a thousandfold. The only reason you still exist is to pay me back, not to sell yourself around”

"Not everyone is like you, Mr. Ethan"

“I’m here to see a patient. If you have nothing else to say, I'm leaving." She said and walked away.

“Ethan"

Hailey called.

“Are you through?" I asked her.

“Yes"

“Alright, let's go out to eat"

~EMILY’S POV~

I hurried to the restaurant where I worked as a pianist.

“Manager, sorry I'm late"

“If you continue to do this, you will be fired." He said.

“I'm sorry" I said and sat in front of the piano. I was about to play when Ethan walked in with a woman.

That must be his new girlfriend.

He disappointed me. Why does my heart still hold on to him?

He walked towards me.

"You also work here.” He said.

" Please don't disturb my work”

" Play Just Like Yesterday for Hailey”

How much did I wrong him to make him humiliate me?

“You want me to play for your girlfriend? Why are…."

" I have a hundred ways to make you lose your job.”

“Fine" I played the song as hot tears ran down my cheek.

It was our favourite song. Now he wants me to play it for his girlfriend just to humiliate me.

I wiped my tears and stood up after I finished.

I was about to leave, but he stopped me again.

“Hailey is sick; she needs a caretaker" he said.

What did I do wrong

"Haven't you humiliated me enough”

“I'm not done until you pay back every bit of my suffering"

“You want to be a caretaker for your girlfriend."

“Aren’t you short of money?" He smugged

“Being her caretaker is better than you being a w***e”

I still need to raise money for Liam's surgery. I'll have to endure this. I'll leave as soon as everything is over.

"Fine, I'll do it.”

He looked at me and walked away.

I know he only has hatred for me; we have nothing between us again.
