I had been stuck at this dull party for two hours, and the crowd was just not my scene. I’m not the easiest person to connect with, so I opted to sit alone in a corner, trying to blend into the background. If it weren't for the money Arsen had promised me, I would have left long ago. Suddenly, I spotted Arsen approaching with a glass of water. I hoped it wasn't alcohol; I was really thirsty, but I'd seen too many drinks laced with booze tonight. I didn't want to get drunk with him since he was someone I needed to keep my distance from.
“Sheira, here’s some water,” Arsen said, offering me the glass. Before I accepted, I cautiously sniffed it and felt relieved to detect only water.
“Relax, it’s not alcohol. You can drink it,” Arsen reassured me, almost as if he could read my mind.
“Thanks,” I said, taking the glass but delaying my sip.
“When are we heading home?” I finally gathered the courage to ask, my thoughts drifting to Mama, who was at home sick.
“Finish your drink first. I need to say goodbye to Rio, then we can leave,” Arsen replied before turning to chat with his friends. As I sipped the water, I waited and watched Arsen interact with his friends. Overhearing their conversation, I couldn't help but eavesdrop.
“Arsen, you’re amazing! You’ve really turned your stepbrother into your lover; bringing him here is proof!” One of his friends complimented.
“Right? Another bet won,” I realized with shock that I was part of a wager for them.
“Damn, Arsen,” I muttered under my breath.
“Where are you taking Sheira after this?” Rio, a familiar face among Arsen’s friends, asked.
“Where else? We’re checking in, especially since I added a special ingredient to her drink,” Arsen’s response made my heart race.
I felt something unsettling in that glass of water and immediately knew I had to escape. I decided not to confront Arsen; leaving while he was distracted seemed like the best option. Suddenly, I felt a sharp throb in my head and my surroundings began to blur.
“I need to get out of here now,” I thought desperately, realizing the drink was affecting me.
“Arsen is such a jerk! I should have never trusted him!” regret filled my mind as I tried to regain my composure.
“Sheira?” I was startled when Dinda, Rio’s girlfriend, stepped in to help me. “Are you okay?” she asked, but I shook my head and brushed off her concern.
I just needed to get away from Arsen. “No, I’m heading home,” I said quickly, moving away from her as fast as I could. Fighting to escape the hotel, I kept my focus on getting as far from Arsen as possible. Once outside, I felt the heat rising in my body, likely due to the effects of the drink. Dizzy and disoriented, I tried to walk, limping as I went.
“Sheira!” I froze when I heard Arsen calling out my name from the hotel entrance. Panic surged through me as I hurried my pace, but he caught up with me effortlessly.
“Where are you going? We should go home together. Dinda told me you’re sick,” he said, revealing that Dinda had informed him of my condition. I pulled my arm away from him, repulsed.
“Let go! Don’t think I don’t know what you’re planning, Arsen!” I shouted, glaring at him in anger and betrayal.
“What do you mean?” he feigned innocence. I couldn't help but smile sadly.
“Don't play dumb, Arsen. You turned me into a betting chip, and you spiked my drink, didn’t you?” His reaction showed a flicker of surprise, but I didn’t expect him to feel remorse.
“So, you figured it out?” He smiled knowingly, sending chills down my spine as I realized I was trapped.
“Since you know, let’s go now,” he said, forcefully grabbing my hand and trying to lead me to his car. I fought back, but all my strength was waning.
“Arsen, let go! Don’t be a jerk!” I yelled in desperation.
“Be quiet, Sheira. Didn’t you say you needed the money?” He continued trying to drag me against my will, while I resisted, hoping he’d understand our relationship had changed.
“I do need the money, but I won’t sell my body. You and I are family now!” I pleaded, hoping he might show me some mercy.
“I don’t care,” he said stubbornly.
“Damn, if I was in better shape, I’d kick him,” I muttered to myself.
Suddenly, the world around me began to spin, and I struggled to keep my eyes open. My vision blurred and darkness threatened to consume me. I could hear what sounded like a scuffle, along with Arsen pleading for forgiveness, but my body was giving up.
“Miss, are you okay?” A strange voice nudged my cheek, but I couldn’t keep my eyes open any longer. The darkness engulfed me, and I fainted.
#Pov Felix
I had just wrapped up a client meeting at the hotel when Leo and I were leaving. I noticed a couple having a disagreement at first, thinking their spat was just typical couple drama. But then I saw the man yanking the woman along with an unsettling force, and it made my blood boil. I could see her struggle, clearly trying to break free. My patience ran out, and I asked Leo to intervene. With just a few swift moves, Leo managed to take down the man. We rushed over to the girl, who was slumped on the ground, seemingly unconscious. At first, it looked like she was fighting to wake up, but then she went limp.
“How is she, Mr. Felix? She’s actually fainted!” Leo exclaimed, clearly alarmed.
“We need to get her to the hospital,” I decided. My instincts kicked in as we carried her to the nearest medical facility, noting that I didn’t catch any scent of alcohol on her.
After the doctor’s examination, relief washed over me as he explained that she hadn’t fainted from illness, but rather due to a drug that caused severe dizziness. He assured me the effects would wear off soon. It struck me then—this girl could have faced something much worse if Leo and I hadn’t stepped in. Guilt gnawed at me for almost choosing to ignore the situation.
“Thank you, doctor,” I said, my gaze drifting back to the unconscious girl, hoping she'd wake soon.
“Sir, what’s on your mind?” Leo’s voice pulled me from my thoughts.
“Are you worried about your future kids?” he asked gently, knowing my personal struggles. I barely nodded in response.
“Yeah, I’m frustrated. I don’t want to marry, but my parents are pressuring me for a heir,” I admitted.
“I might have a solution for you. What if you sought a woman for a contract marriage? You could have her carry your child through insemination without needing to physically engage. You’d just need to ensure she’s healthy, then you can legally document the arrangement. After the baby arrives, you complete the marriage and gain custody, and if you offer some financial incentive, I bet there are women who would consider it,” he suggested.
