Caleb POV
I rolled her over and pulled her on top of me, holding her and never wanting this moment to end. I could feel her breathing even out and her heart rate slow. I know she’s fallen asleep and I can’t help but kiss the top of her head.
*What are you doing, Caleb? She just told us she doesn’t want a mate and here you are setting us up for heart break?* Jax whimpers in my head.
*I couldn’t help myself, bud. I’ve loved her for so long. None of this feels real. She has always been the most amazing perfect girl. I know we are not her mate and I know she doesn’t want a mate. But let me enjoy this while I can.* Jax lowers his head and makes his way back into my subconscious.
Daliah really is the perfect girl. I know she would never accept me as her mate but if I can just have a few of these moments with her, I will be totally okay with that.
I let myself doze off to the sound of her steady breathing on my chest.

Daliah POV
I gently wake to the sound of a gentle rumble under my head, I bury my face into the hard chest I’m laying on. s**t! I freeze realizing I spend the whole night asleep on Caleb. I feel his arms snake around me and hold me tighter.
“Morning, D.” I look up to see Caleb smiling down at me. My goodness how can this man look this sexy just waking up?
I squirm out of his arms and sit up on the couch to put some distance between us. The moment was becoming too intimate for my liking.
He frowns when I pull away but doesn’t object.
I run my hand through my hair “listen, I’m so sorry about last night…” I trial off and he tilts my chin up so I meet his gaze.
“Daliah, like I said before you have absolutely nothing to be sorry for. I know what you want from this. I know this was a one time thing I’m not expecting anything else to come from this.” He smiles gently at me before wrapping me in a hug.
He’s right. This was a one time thing. Nothing else will come from this… but why does that thought make me feel hurt.
*Because you loved the feeling of being held by someone, you loved the fact that our first time was with someone you trust and love.* Rhea chimes in making me feel even more guilty.
*No, Rhea… I don’t know… I just need to focus on training today and get my mind off this.*
Suddenly Caleb pulls back from the hug and points at the coffee table. “What the hell is that?” he asks shocked
I look over and notice the paper that appeared on the table. And sigh “it’s a job.” I shrug and grab the paper.
He looks at me confused “a job? How did it just appear on the table out of nowhere?”
I giggle and look over at Caleb who is watching me closely. “Have you never wondered how I get hired for a job? It’s not like my phone number is in the yellow pages Caleb.” I stand up and stretch my arms above my head realizing I am still completely naked. I quickly grab a blanket off the back of the couch and wrap it around me.
He chuckles and pulls his pajama pants on quickly before sitting back down. “Well now I’m curious. Care to enlighten me?”
I roll my eyes, I hold out the piece of paper. “This slip of paper is exactly two inches by six and a half. My client wrote only their name and nothing else on this paper and tossed it into an enchanted trash can. Then poof, it appears here.” I shrug
Caleb takes the paper “Elliot Reed.” He gives me a puzzled look “how do you get in contact with them by just a name? There has to be a million Elliot Reed’s in the world.”
I snatch the paperback “you’re right, there is. But you see I don’t want people to find me. I find them. What I do is extremely dangerous. I don’t need people to be able to find me.” I sigh and run my fingers through my hair “they take the paper back to wherever it is they want to meet with me before they write their name down.” I stand up and head towards the basement door. “Come on follow me.”
Caleb follows me downstairs to the basement. Or I guess you could say bunker. “holy crap, D!” you look like you are ready to go to war yourself with all this stuff down here.” He says running his fingers across my wall of weapons.
“Careful, most of that is pure silver.” I shrug I make my way over to my shelf of potions “I have a lot of ‘friends’ who don’t want to piss me off. A warlock, Jacques, helped me create this sneaky way of doing my job safely.” I grab the purple bottle from the top shelf and pop the top before sprinkling it on the paper. “This will give me a map to the location that the name was written.” I rub my finger across name before touching it to my temple and closing my eyes.
I can see a map clearly in my head. It looks like I am meeting with the alpha of the half moon pack not too far from here.
I open my eyes to see Caleb watching me closely. “How do you know this isn’t a trap or something?”
“It very well could be. But the only people who know how to contact me are people or creatures who know someone who knows someone. My job isn’t public knowledge, Caleb. It’s not like I have a billboard on the highway announcing what I do.” I giggled before burning the piece of paper.
“I don’t like you going there alone, let me come with you.” I can see the worry in his eyes.
“Caleb you will only get in my way. I have been doing this for years I’m safer alone.” I roll my eyes and head upstairs with Caleb hot on my heel.
“I don’t like this, D.” He grabs my arm and turns me around.
“It’s not yours to like or dislike. I have to go and you need to head to training.” I pull my arm away and run upstairs to my room.
I don’t like leaving Caleb acting like a jerk but I have a job to do.
I quickly throw on my fighting gear, black pants, black tee. My straps with my daggers and shuriken. I pull on my cloak and add a touch of makeup before walking downstairs. I slip on my combat boots and notice Caleb outside heading down the driveway.
I run out and lean against the banister. “I can drop you off at training before I head out.” I yell after him.
He turns around and runs up to me, his eyes blazing as he slams me into the front door. His lips touch mine as he kisses me deeply. I wrap my arms around his neck and lean into his kiss savoring every moment of it.
He pulls back with a shaky breath and rests his forehead against mine. We both sit there panting for a little bit before he gives me one last peck. He hops off the porch and looks up at me “I need to run off this stress. Can I see you later at least?” he looks at me with pleasing eyes.
I nod, “if you’d like come back here tonight you can, actually you can stay with me until this war is over.”
His eyes light up and he smiles brightly before shifting and taking off towards the forest.
I run my hand through my hair. What the hell is wrong with me?
I hop in my car and head off towards the half moon pack. I can only hope this is an easy mark I don’t need anything that will take too much of my time.
