Chapter 6

1435 Words
Caleb POV I’ve been training nonstop for six hours now; a lot of the techniques Daliah taught us yesterday have really helped me to improve in my own fighting abilities. I keep glancing over my shoulder hoping to see Daliah show up but she still hasn’t, I’m sure whatever this job is that should took is taking longer than she planned. A white cloud of smoke appears in front of me and I jump back startled but quickly compose myself ready to attack. “Calm down pup the last thing you want to do is attack me.” His sinister smile and black beady eyes come into focus as the smoke clears. “Oh hey Vlad,” I relax and lean back against a tree. “To what do I owe the pleasure?” from what I have seen Vladimir never speaks to any of the wolves. Most Vampires think wolves are beneath them so I’m genuinely curious as to why he would be here talking to me now. “I couldn’t help but notice you and I have a common… friend” he says curiously, I’m sure he can smell her scent all over me, not just because we made love last night but because I stayed in her home. I’m sure her scent is over powering. “I assume by friend you mean The Huntress?” I don’t think Daliah has given him her real name and I am not about to blow her cover. He smiles knowingly “yes yes, ‘The Huntress’” he winks as he says her name. “Have you seen her today? I have looked all over and can’t seem to find her.” He asks curiously. I don’t know what Daliah wants these people to know so I won’t give anything away. “I really don’t know Vlad. I ran here this morning and haven’t seen her since I got here.” I shrug like I really don’t care where she is even though it’s been eating at me all morning not being able to see her. Vlad taps his chin obviously not believing anything I’ve said but he doesn’t seem to want to press the issue. “Well if you do happen to see her please let her know I’m looking for her.” He winks again before disappearing into a cloud of smoke. Like I would ever tell that guy where Daliah was. He gives me major creeps. I shudder and head back into training; I need to do something to get my mind off of her. Daliah POV “All the information you should need is in this folder.” Elliot hands over the manila envelope. I pop the top and glance in. he has clearly done more work than most of the people who hire me, which is helpful it will make this mark all the more easier. “Thanks I will get on this. Now as far as payment goes I expect half up front and the rest once the job is finished.” He nods and pulls an envelope out of his desk and hands it over to me, “this should more than cover it. And I will pay you more once the job is done. This witch has ruined so many lives with this curse.” He looks pained as he continues, “just please let me know when it’s done.” I nod in understanding. “Don’t worry. I never miss my mark. It may take me some time to track her but once it’s done ill return to let you know.” I turn to head out the window when he grabs my arm. “Sorry, I just really do want to apologize again and say thank you for your willingness to work with us given the situation.” He shrugs and releases my arm before a questioning looks comes to his face. “But now that I think about it I do have to ask. How did you get into my office in the first place?” I chuckle and slap my hand on his back. “That’s my little secret Elliot, but don’t worry. No one will see me leave either.” He looks at my confused before I jump out the window and make my way through the trees back to my car. Caleb POV Its night time now and I’m making my way back to Daliah’s house. Jax has been going crazy for the last couple hours pacing and making me nervous. He wants to get back to her worse than I do. Maybe we are both just nervous about the fact she never came to training and she has a new job. I still don’t fully understand how her whole situation works and I would hate for her to walk into a trap without even realizing. As we approach her house Jax is jumping and howling in my head he wants out and its taking everything I have to keep him in. *Chill man, what has gotten into you?* I walk in the front door and that’s when it hits me. Its Vanilla and sugar cookie. It’s so sweet and perfect. My eyes stop on the beautiful woman in front of me. *MATE!* Jax screams in my head. “Mate.” Daliah and I say in unison. We lunge for each other and meet in the middle our lips colliding as we passionately embrace each other. Daliah POV I have felt restless ever since I got home. I changed into a pair of shorts and a tank top to relax in while I go through the folder Elliot gave me. Rhea won’t calm down and has been pacing for the last thirty minutes. *Please relax I have to go through all of this before we go to sleep so I’m ready to track in the morning.* I get nothing back and try but fail to shut her out. The door opens and the scent of Sandalwood and peppermint slaps me in the face. *MATE!* Rhea yells in my head as Caleb and I lock eyes. “Mate!” we both say in unison. I run to him as he runs to me. Sparks fly as his lips touch mine. He pulls me up and I wrap my lets around him deepening the kiss. His hands run up and down my body as I tangle my fingers in his hair. “Mine” he says again says as his tongue plunges into my mouth, tasting and savoring every bit of our passion. We both fight for dominance in the kiss but when his hand comes up and his fingers wrap around my hair, I become putty in his hands. He carries me up the stairs to the bedroom I gave to him. He slowly lowers me so my body slides down his front. He pulls back and that gives me enough time to realize what is going on. “Wait Caleb.” I hold my hand up to slow him down. His face pales and he realizes what we have been doing “s**t Daliah I am so so sorry.” He runs a hand through his hair and turns to look at me confused. “Wait, how? We spent all day yesterday with each other. How are you my second chance and I didn’t feel it yesterday?” he gives me a puzzled stare. I sigh and look around the room, “I met my mate today, he was actually my client.” I look at Caleb who now as a pained expression in his eyes. “Obviously I rejected him hence why this is now happening.” I wave my hand between us. “Daliah-“I cut him off and hold my hand up. “Caleb I do not want a mate. I have never wanted a mate.” Saying those words to him hurts. I can’t go through another rejection today I don’t think I would survive it. But also… I don’t think I would want to reject Caleb. He’s not a complete stranger and he’s my second chance. It’s pretty rare for the Moon Goddess to bless us with a second chance mate especially if we are the ones to reject our first mate. I look up at his sad eyes. “Daliah” he grabs my hands and looks deep into my eyes. “I have loved you since the moment I met you, I was so upset when I found out you weren’t my first mate. Please, don’t reject me, give this a chance.”
